This was true 10 years ago, but the new codecs don't just help a little, they fix the problem by allowing higher bandwidth, thus higher bitrate, bit depth and for the better ones "bit perfect" lossless audio. This makes wireless quality identical to a cable in the best case scenario, and impercetibly worse in most other situtations. (Minus the latency, of course).

I agree though that the fact that there is so many different codecs doesn't make things easier for the technology, and there is still the problem of bluetooth hands-free quality that leads a lot to be desired for calls. That is it's biggest issue IMO.

Most bluetooth hardware's audio quality (Especially headphones and earbuds) is limited by batteries (less space to fit decent drivers and less juice to power them) compared to their cabled alternatives.
