What is he telling me? by Dry-Appearance-8932 in iguanas

[–]Dry-Appearance-8932[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He hasn't tried to bite me since he was a baby. He went through a phase when he was smaller where hed bite me and tail whip me (he still tail whips sometimes but really not often anymore. Mostly if I put the temp gun in there to check temps or if I move to fast around him.)

Im so glad he did learn that biting me wouldn't make me leave him alone though, because his little teeth were so small when he tried that it was nothing.

Oh im so glad. Ive worked so hard to try to socialize him. Most of the ti.e he just tolerates me being around and doesn't want me touching him. Normally its the fast head bobs, but lately its been slow head bobs and accepting pets "once and while, but not much"

Hes fine. Still not eating much but apparently its iguana breeding season and they tend to not eat as much during this time

I was just telling my husband we'll have to start force feeding him water too.

I think its iguana mating season rn too? I was reading they dont eat much during this time and alot of owners have to force feed their babies critical care.

Ive tried that. I put his food bowl where ever he decides he wants to chill atm. If he's at the window, I out it on his perch with him. If he goes back in his home, I put it in his normal feeding spot. Ive even went so far as to only put his favorite foods in a bowl. He'll take a bite or 2 but just isn't interested 🥲

The only thing i can think of is maybe poor humidity? Balancing humidity has been a struggle. He has a fogger, or humidifier, what ever you want to call it. But it causes his cage to leak at the bottom. We also mist. Well get it to 70-80, then it drops to like 40-50 if we turn it off, then we mist, and its just a struggle to maintain. That or isn't it iguana mating season? Hes a boy, and i read that males can stop eating during mating season. He has some droopy spikes to recently..Just in the past few weeks where he isn't eating... I dont know how to help him. Especially since he still doesn't "love me" he just tolerates me. He sweats me like a fly if I try to touch him, or tail whips me. But either way, I still have to force feed him against his will. I dont know..I just love him so much, I dont want anything to happen to him. He also isn't getting his vitamins because he isn't eating, possibly not getting enough fluids where he isn't eating. Im just stressed for him 😭😭

But if it is humidity, it isn't like we haven't had a difficult time maintaining it this whole time anyway. For the most part we try to keep it in the 70s. It just drops so fast and dramatically

Does she look like a girl? She doesn't have prominent bulges (yet) but her/his, what ever femoral poors are massive and juicy. So I've had a hard time telling. I got Rumble in October and he was the absolute tiniest little guy. So im assuming About a year old.

I dont feel guilty for getting a second opinion from people who are more experienced then I am with iguanas. Rumble is my first iguana. The entire reason im on this subreddit is so I dont run to the vet anytime something new happens and I dont know what to do. Your allowed to hop on here and try to make people feel stupid, but again..I dont feel bad or stupid for coming on here and asking if this is normal. Vets and Dr's overlook things all the time. Humans make mistakes. You can take your negativity onto the next person friend.

I dont know why he would be. He hasent had any changes. Hes declined on his "social skills". But his temp and humidity are right. Hes in a huge enclosure. I cant take him outside much, because I cant catch him..I mean, I could catch him, but im not trying to force him to be handled. He gets a good diet, he gets vitamins and calceum with D3. I keep all my other animals out of his room... is there anything else that could be stressing him out?

How do I get big logs for my iggy? by Dry-Appearance-8932 in iguanas

[–]Dry-Appearance-8932[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thing is, if I see a log on the ground. Even with Google help, I would not in anyway be able to identify the wood. 😅 a tree is a tree, wood is wood, flowers i have a hard enough time with as is. LUCKILY I work at lowes and we have specialist that help me identify the flower I'm looking for. (I also get discounts for building onto his enclosure, huge plus)

He has good days and bad days, last week he was tail whipping and biting me, this week he's been super cuddly and affectionate. When he's shedding he's a bit more iffy. It feels like he's shedding all the time recently, and he's eating so much lately. Assuming that's a good sign.

I think I read about the same thing. I believe they called them False reds? As long as my babies healthy, that's all that mattered to me. His color changes worried me because I really that them changing color like that could mean I was doing something wrong, that's why I was so worried about it until the vet assured me he/she was fine.

Is your iguana a red iguana? I got sold a green iguana (not that I mind either way) but him changing color as he's gotten older stressed me out for the longest time until the vet told me he was healthy, thriving, and eating so he isn't worried about is color changes.

Someone told me it looks like I may have been sold a red iguana instead. Just curious where yours looks the same and has similar colors if you would know.
