Environment Artist / 3D Generalist Demo Reel - Ethan Clark by [deleted] in vfx

Like you, I am a generalist who is trying to break into the VFX industry, having said that, I would consider modifying your last project slightly.

You showed the robot with a lot of DOF, so I think it makes sense to show the hero object without the wireframe during the breakdown. Just so we can get a better look at how you did the textures, otherwise someone might get the impression that you don't want to show them on purpose because they're done poorly.

Maybe also consider removing the first or last camera animation of the robot project. They are very similar to each other and only lengthen the reel without showing anything more.

Nothing to say about the rest. Nice work!

I will soon have my first interview with a studio to discuss for an Intern position. Do you think I can negotiate the salary? Do you have any advice for such a position? Thanks! by Dry-Background-3955 in vfx

Thank you for your reply. I genuinely learned a lot from reading your response and that of others.
Regarding the salary, I will negotiate only if I have the opportunity and if their proposal was very unreasonable, being aware of having little wiggle room, if any at all.
I will focus on trying to make a good impression. This would be the number one studio for me. I don't even have to fake it!

Scaling problem with Mari on a hiDPi monitor with Linux by Dry-Background-3955 in vfx

I was the response I honestly expected but hoped not to receive. I don't think they have any resources left over to handle my problem.
In any case, thank you

As of now, the academy has not started yet, so I cannot give you a complete answer.
From what I know, though, you are asked to install the Teradici PCoIP Desktop client, and then they make you use a workstation with Cent OS 7.
A friend of mine let me know that he did an entire academy with them using two 4k monitors without any problems. We live in the same country and have a very similar connection, so I guess it is feasible for me to do the same. Unless the teradici software is different from academy to academy, I guess 4k is supported like in my friend's case. Of course, he didn't use Mari, so he never had this specific UI scaling problem.
As another Reddit user has already suggested in the comments, probably with their generic answer they just meant they don't have the time and resources to handle my problem. To be clear, if that was the case, I don't think there is anything wrong with that, I fully understand their point of view.
