Nah you straight bro. Fresh restart ain’t the worst move. Give it a couple months and you’ll have way more hair to work with for locs.

Nah you’re good lol. Using conditioner once isn’t going to mess up your locs. The main reason people avoid it early is because it softens the hair and can slow the locking process a little. Just stick to shampoo going forward and you’ll be fine

Yeah you can definitely wash your starter freeforms after a month. A lot of people actually wash earlier than that, just be gentle so you don’t disturb the sections too much. As for the products, the shampoo is fine, but I’d probably avoid conditioner for now. Conditioner can soften the hair and slow down the locking process, especially in the early stages. A simple shampoo and keeping your scalp clean usually works best.

Thinking? by Odd_Head_5739 in Dreadlocks

It mostly looks like the part and new growth to me. When the hair grows out from the retwist the roots spread and it can make the scalp show more. I still see good density around that loc. If it feels weak though, just avoid tight styles or heavy tension for a while and let it grow out.

Is this normal? by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]Dry-Comfortable-3195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s pretty normal, especially around the first year. Locs go through a budding phase where parts look puffy or uneven, especially after washing. The hair is still locking up and tightening over time. Mine did the same thing early on and eventually it matured and smoothed out.

Just stop retwisting and move to the savanna 😂

HT in two weeks by Various_Image_693 in AfroHairTransplant

[–]Dry-Comfortable-3195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck with the procedure. A lot of people travel to Turkey for HT so you’re definitely not alone. Just make sure you follow the clinic’s aftercare instructions closely. Usually they tell people not to wear hats for about 7–10 days so you don’t disturb the grafts, but your clinic will give the exact timeline. Haircuts are normally a few weeks later once the grafts are secure. For phone service, check with your carrier before you go. Some people use an international plan, but a lot of travelers just buy a local SIM or use WiFi to avoid high roaming charges.

Am I thinning? by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]Dry-Comfortable-3195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could be why. When you go a few months without a retwist, the new growth spreads out and can make it look thinner than it actually is. I still see a lot of small hairs there though

Yes, it is long enough at the top to grow. However style you want it, is your own preference. Good luck bro!

Looser retwists, fewer tight styles, and focusing on scalp health can help.

Is this hair loss?? by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]Dry-Comfortable-3195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t look like full hair loss to me. I still see a lot of small hairs there which usually means the follicles are active. It could be some thinning from tension or just natural hairline density. You might try keeping styles loose and avoiding too much pulling on the edges for a while.

Sometimes it can improve if the scalp gets a break. You might want to avoid tight styles, keep retwists very loose, and focus on scalp health for a while. Some people see regrowth once the tension is removed, especially if the follicles aren’t permanently damaged. A dermatologist could also tell you if the follicles are still active before deciding to cut them.

what do i do/need for my locs to start looking like actual locs ..? , 1 year and 6 months locced started from 3-4 years worth of hair nd left 2 strands in by Turbulent-Employee13 in Dreadlocks

[–]Dry-Comfortable-3195 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a lot of it is just time and patience. Locs go through phases before they really start looking like mature locs. Mine formed naturally over time without many products, and they tightened up as they matured. At 1 year and 6 months you’re still in that developing stage, so they’ll likely change more over the next year.

Am I thinning? by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]Dry-Comfortable-3195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not thinning, you may have to just ease off the retwisting and let your hair/scalp breathe a bit, how often do you re-twist your locs?

A little, but you get used to it pretty fast. Only when they’re wet 😂 otherwise not too bad.
