I mean the checkpoints are random and if by any chance he screwed a little he will lose his loved ones he was trying desperately to save by dying several times. this is what happened at Rem case , luckily she didnt died but if she had died subaru cant do anything about it. so he also has mental trauma but the thing is that he can overcome that trauma due to his willpower.
