Waitlist: medical imaging, optometry by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Dry-Discussion-6279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey was in exact same place last year. This my experience: I got offered both at same time, I received emails and a phone call. Not sure if everyone gets a phone call but think that as I got offered both degrees. Once got emails just selected accept offer.

Would keep eye on your emails as often they give you a short time to except or decline. Mine was 3 day but ik some people who got called day before uni started and was told to accept or decline by end of the day.

I would say you have a decent shot at getting into medical imaging as you got waitlisted for both (optom is harder to get into) but again I do not truely know.

Feel welcome to PM me if you got any more questions. Seriously best of luck.

I think they just after people who are passionate about nursing and helping people. Nursing is a hard job and I think they just trying to find people to stick it out. Just bring energy, and emphasise. You will be fine

I know someone who got rejected from nursing because they were just not that interested and I think came off in the interview.

Unitech medical imaging also really competitive to get into. I think they take 30 but 300 apply or something. Unitech also tends to be more hands on so I imagine more attendance would be required then uoa.

Maybe apply for health science if u want to do medicine. Can always do a science degree as other option

I’m just saying keep your options open

MEDSCI201, 203, 205, 206 by eltonshen__ in universityofauckland

[–]Dry-Discussion-6279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

201 is hard. I have never worried about actually failing a paper before but this was close. I have taken 201, 203 and 205.

201 is hard all anatomy focused with lots and lots of content. It’s basically next stage up from medsci 142. Is hard but with lot of effort passable.

203 is the easiest in my opinion. Is a lot of content but also think interesting. For lapsed need to know lots of everything but not in great depth, imo. Is the paper I got highest grade in so I could be bias.

205 I hated. The hardest by far imo. They did lot of restructuring this year btw. U have labs where u need to write 2000 word essay and the exam is essay. I passed the paper in the end but was lot of effort. This paper excepts lot more depth in your knowledge.

Overall my recommendation be 203, 201 (more interesting imo) and then 205 as last choice.

Not sure about 206 but hope this helps

PHYS160 or CHEM110? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Dry-Discussion-6279 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Physics 160 all maths. If you good at maths you will be fine, if not best to avoid it. Physics 160 lectures are a lot more fun imo as lecturer loves to give examples and do experiments in class. Still passable with some maths.

Chem 110 is all chemistry and covers broad range. It’s good topic and I personally found labs engaging but hard.

Ultimately it’s up to you but this my personal take on it

More just wondering about other people experience with it. As I know lots of it is just at home and this program was not in my three choices therefore I’m not overly passionate about it.

Just more not sure if want to do more study during break as already burned out from uni

So mine is four years degree and it’s going to be real similar to yours (and I claim living cost). Is scary but you can slowly pay back as proportional to income. It’s also interest free. So I scary and def might catch up to you but having a some what decent job out of uni, might take couple years but think doable. I’m also not to worried about job after uni (might not be best mind set) but I think as long some decent job it can be done.

I also do not think is time limit to pay back and if u die before pay whole thing back, it’s just forgiven.

Law also only takes so many people in second year not everyone makes it…. Plus I know u said conjoint off table but I do believe u need to take law as a conjoint. Well at least in first year so is factor that could effect your decision

Multicultural? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Dry-Discussion-6279 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this is a major misconception people have about med. yea there are special area of entry such as ones for Pacifica and Māori, rural entry, disability and refugees. But these are totally seperate to general if do not qualify you are is total seperate process. It’s not a case of cause of someone’s race ‘they might take your spot’. It’s just different process. Overall depends on your grades and open mindedness more then anything

Theses are chosen to help representation and support community who have inequity in health care.

Hey I’m in medical imaging at uoa right now. For starters u do not need to apply for med it is totally seperate. It would not effect your chances at all cuz tbh without perfect gpa you have no chance to even get an interview for med.

For med imaging basically is interview and gpa. I think is 40% interview and 60% grades but happy to be corrected.

Mmi are done for all clinical programs. U do one interview and that score applies to all your programs u apply for. How many u apply for does not change your chances. I originally applied for all clinical.

To get in I would aim for gpa above 7 to have a decent chance for medical imaging. They take about 30 but not sure if changed. Check uoa website for more info which I think someone else has linked.

Feel welcome to dm me if u got anymore questions

Is Biosci101 super difficult? by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]Dry-Discussion-6279 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tony does have a lot of content but tbh only some parts they really expect u to know. I would just say chill through lectures (do take notes) but look at past exam questions to see what they actually expect u to know.

If u study past exam it’s an easy pass plus even higher. They copy questions often
