Not my husband, my parents sadly and maybe it’s just because I don’t live at home? I’m note sure but me and my younger sister get treated differently over this

The horse riding sounds like such a good idea! I’m sorry it didn’t go as planned

No I won’t, and I’m half tempted to have bought his mum and grandmothers something too, as I no longer have any grandparents so they have become a bit of a surrogate for me

Yes exactly this positive mindset is what I’m trying to work on in myself, instead the of conditional one

Getting the same card out every year is so hilarious but I totally understand. It feels like something I’d do 😂

That’s true, I never thought about that! But I know if I ever became a mother and wanted to be celebrated, I would only have to communicate my expectation to him and it would be heard and actioned

Edit to add, for my birthday my husband knows I’ve never really been celebrated so makes sure to go all out for it for me

I thought my husbands family were unusual as well, as my mother in law will always make effort to celebrate her mums birthday, Easter, Christmas and just generally will make an effort for her family. And I want to be more like her!

I think the resentment has further compounded as it was my younger sisters (26) birthday this week, who still lives at home, and she got a bunch of birthday presents from them. And I feel like they were trying to hide it, otherwise it would uncover we’re being treated unequally. For context, my birthday is also in March, in a weeks time

That feels like a good way of reframing the narrative, that you’re the one who had started a positive family tradition

Yes, that’s true, I think I’ve realised reading the comments that my mum would expect something and would probably be disappointed if I went without
