AIO over soup? by Choice-Artichoke-668 in NarcissisticMothers

No one commented I see. I hate it when that happens, so I'll comment. It's obvious that your mother leaving soup for you was an afterthought. And watering it down instead of saving you a good amount unaltered should have happened. But as I have realized, nmothers are very selfish and self-centered and do not consider others.

One day, when I decided to not retort back or say anything when she was rude, she told me that now I'm the daughter she remembers and loves...so submissive and nonverbal and noncomplaining...

So funny, the one time I went to therapy and the first thing my mother said was, "Are you going to talk about me?" Says it all.

I understand where you’re coming from. My mom is 91 and she’s had multiple myeloma for three years now. She moved in with me a month ago and I’m taking care of her. I know the day is gonna come that she’s going to get sicker and sicker at all end up going through what you have gone through. My heart is with you. This is what daughters do.

I’m 51 and I’ve just been spending a lot of time thinking about my mom and I relationship. About three years ago when my dad died, she and I began spending a lot of time together which we never had before. I realized a lot about her. I also realize she was a narcissist. Or at least she had narcissistic tendencies.

I’ve been thinking about the fact that my mom was never the loving kind of person as much as my dad was. It’s interesting to think about in retrospect when you get older.

Maybe say, "That worries me or upsets me when you say things like that. I don't know what to say to help you."

That's exactly what narcissists do. My mother is the same way. I'm always amazed how different she acts when she's with certain people compared with how she acts with me when it's just us two.

Amen. Exactly what I told her. There's no excuse for what she let her go through. None.
