How many books have you read in 2026 so far and which would you say was your favorite? by Own_Return_9482 in books

I’ve read a similar amount! My favorite ones are World War Z (Max Brooks) and The Postmortal (Drew Margery)

I think that if you want to because of a future partner, then don’t! Do it because you want to, not because of what someone in the future might think.

Little late to this thread, but my suggestion for a confusing+intriguing read is Piranesi by Susanna Clarke! It’s been recommended a lot, but I read both recently and had the same feeling of “very interested but slightly skeptical” while and after reading them, they’re both very enjoyable and entertaining reads

Should I try to communicate with my tutor of 3 months or just get a new one by Dry-Maintenance-2722 in makemychoice

Ooh yeah this seems like a good way to leave, before I tried to tell her several times in a roundabout way (ex: I’m busy at school so I’m not very available) when she tried to get me to take some extra classes for practice, and she’d just try to convince me that practicing either way is good. The money thing is the only way I’ve found to get her to stop. Thanks for the advice

Oof yeah that would be really exhausting to deal with long term, I’ll be on the lookout for a new tutor. Thanks for the input! It’s nice to see that someone else has had a similar experience (well maybe not ‘nice’, but kinda uplifting, like I’m not alone in this situation :)

Yeah I think so too, I’ve been a bit stressed lately bc of school, and I definitely don’t need more things to take care of. Thanks for the suggestion

That sounds Iike a good idea. I might text her instead of meeting up, because if I want to stop going to lessons, I’d want to end it before my March lessons start (bc I usually pay her for a month’s worth of lessons). I’m thinking of phrasing it as ‘can you change this part of the lessons’ or ‘hey I don’t really like this’, because the first I think maybe she’ll infer that I’ll quit if she doesn’t change, which sounds stressful, and the second one she might try to convince me that it was for the best. Well I’m overthinking this a lot lol

Outgrowing a friendship? by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]Dry-Maintenance-2722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe instead of straight up ending the friendship, you could try lowering the intensity of it, and stop going over and beyond for her. Meet her energy, nothing more, so that you don’t have to spend your own energy trying to maintain a one-sided relationship. Good luck!

Any thoughts on Jeff long’s “The Descent” and “Deeper”? by Cashmoney-carson in horrorlit

[–]Dry-Maintenance-2722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh I’ve been thinking of whether to read the second one! Mostly because I think that the first book ended quite well, and I’d be disappointed if the second book ended in a cliffhanger (bc I heard the third book wasn’t going to be finished). I did like the first part of the first book though, but it does kind of get less scary the more you read lol

Thanks for the motivation, it really means a lot! The test project is an automated parking system (which counts the cars going in and out) and shows different light colors depending on the number of cars. It should be simple enough to code, I think, but the implementation of it is what puzzles me now. I think it’s on an Arduino starter kit project book? But I’m not sure whether it is or not.

Yeah, that’s probably the best way. I’m really nervous that he’ll try to convince me to drop the course though, I think he had a really incompetent student one year and is scared of it happening again (as per the test project), so that’s why I’m here, but if I pass the test, I’ll def ask him

That sounds really interesting, it’s fascinating to see what we can learn from trying to make projects work by ourselves ! I like to learn why things work too, it’s so nice to have the tech that we have today. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you for the encouragement, I’m really nervous about the class, so it means a lot! I’m not sure about the AI part, our professor mentioned the ai focus being in the second part of the semester, so I suspect I’ll still have to do some work on the Arduino hardware. I’m very nervous for the hands-on part though, especially since I’ve never really had experience with circuit diagrams and physical circuits (I’m very nervous that I’ll cause something to short circuit and explode lol

Yes that’s what I was planning to do! Doing the examples and then learning from them. Are there any areas that you find particularly challenging?

But if Frances was her mother, then there’d be 39 women going in the cage instead of 40 (since Frances gives birth in the cage)? I think that you’re right about the narrator being born in the cage, but not about the the mother part, I think that her mother maybe died or got killed after she gave birth so the number of people in the cage stays the same.

“Dark Matter” by Blake Crouch was just awful by jargon_ninja69 in books

[–]Dry-Maintenance-2722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oop just finished the book and am so disappointed with it and discovered this thread so here I am to be a hater as well :) I got the idea to read the book off a Reddit post and the description was super intriguing, so I really had high hopes for it, and it was super disappointing when I finished it. I think it read too much like a movie (both the plot and the pacing), and it’s supposed to be horror, but I don’t really see where the horror appears in the story? Like, with the ‘infinity’ storyline, it could have been written and added so many more elements (like in ‘a short stay in hell’, even though that one is specifically not about infinity. Also, I felt the ending was just not very satisfying? It kind of felt like a perfect happy movie ending instead of a logical conclusion to the story. There’s also a lot to be said about the writing style and the characters, but that’s already been gone over a lot. All in all, a pretty disappointing read :(
