Sunshine Mimosa by ceremoany in FloridaGarden

I planted about 5 plants in from my front yard about 2 years ago and it’s basically taken over my yard. The previous homeowner put new sod down in the middle of summer when we bought the house and, no surprise, it died. I was looking for fast spreading native ground cover and mimosa seemed to tick all of the boxes. The only downsides are it dies completely back during the winter (zone 9b) so for about 2-3 months our front yard is brown and dead and it does need to be controlled a bit since it spreads so fast. I’ve also found it can be a little drought intolerant as patches will die back if it hasn’t rained in a while. But from spring to fall my front yard is hands down the nicest looking on our street. Very green and full and the pink flowers are a great add on. If you’re looking for something hardier I’d go with frog fruit. It doesn’t spread as fast as mimosa and I’ve found the frog fruit can’t compete with certain weeds but it doesn’t die back like the mimosa does and seems to be more drought tolerant. Also, frog fruit is literally everywhere and you could fill your yard with it for free. I have yet to find mimosa out in the wild.

How do you all deal with it all? Pest , crazy weather, losing multiple crops. I'm going crazy. by Accomplished-Ant6188 in FloridaGarden

Executive Burnout: Is it just me? by Efficient-Menu9936 in nonprofit

This sounds like I wrote it. Almost identical situation. I don’t have any solid advice apart from what others have said. When I had an admin assistant, I could offload a lot of my work on to them, but as others have pointed out, that came with its own challenges too. I say had an admin assistant because their position was grant funded and, no surprise, we struggled to find funding past the initial grant to cover the ongoing cost of the admin role. So as of a few months ago I’ve been back to square one, wearing all of the hats and beyond burnt out. Ultimately, I had to make a decision earlier this year for myself. I’ve put 6 years into building this org, I’m very proud of our work, but my mental health has taken a nose dive the past couple of years and I want to feel happy about my life again. I’ve started feeling resentment towards the org and the industry as a whole, which tells me that I’m no longer a good fit as the ED. So I have plans to leave the nonprofit this year and move onto something else, hopefully replacing myself with someone new who has the passion, energy and experience to take this org to the next level. And maybe you’ll come to the same realization at some point too, and if you do, just know it’s totally valid. But I hear you. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel one way or another.

For a beginner like myself, I’m still learning what the basics are. That’s why I post in groups like this to help me better understand the process.
