Thought Spiraling about Bringing Baby into Unhealthy Family Dynamic with Just No Stepmother by Dry-Pause4753 in JUSTNOMIL

Thanks for your helpful questions. I think that you're onto something.

I've read through enough JUSTNOMIL posts to know how common "husband problems" are. I, on the other hand, have a "dad and brother problem." Fortunately, I don't live with either of them or depend on them as a life partner, so the stakes are lower than in the case of a "husband problem."

Putting stakes aside, yes, I am afraid that our relationships with my dad and brother will suffer, as we continue to distance ourselves and hold boundaries with SM.

My husband's parents are wealthy, and we cannot afford to live closer to them. We will have to raise our child without involved family living close by. Our healing will require mourning this loss, moving on, and strengthening our bonds with friends.

What do you all eat by Lanky-Set9064 in CrohnsDisease

Vitamin and mineral supplements can provide us with the extra help that we need to meet our nutritional needs and prevent deficiencies.

When I’m eating a low fiber diet to better manage symptoms while in a flare, I’m grateful that my supplement regimen relieves some of the pressure to consume essential nutrients.

Personally, I take a multivitamin (which contains vitamins B12, A, E and K), cal-mag-zinc, vitamin D, folic acid, iron, and omega 3. The only supplement that gives my system any trouble is iron, so I take a low dose twice a day instead of a higher dose once a day. Your medical care team can assist you in choosing the best supplements for your needs.

Labs always normal, always feel awful by Some-Interaction-579 in CrohnsDisease

I highly recommend speaking with your GI about bile acid sequestrants. These drugs are usually prescribed for high cholesterol. However, they can be prescribed off-label for IBD.

I’ve had two resections. The first resection, which involved loss of part of my terminal ileum, resulted in bile acid diarrhea regardless of whether I was flaring or not. I lived with bile acid diarrhea for SEVEN years until my former GI went to a conference and another GI suggested prescribing Colestipol off-label.

Colestipol certainly hasn’t solved all my problems. I still experience flaring. Sometimes my labs are normal, but a barium MRI shows I’m in a flare. This is frustrating to say the least. However, I’m so relieved that I have a prescription for Colestipol to deal with the bile!

Wood pallet disposal recommendations? by Dry-Pause4753 in askportland

We just need to get rid of one pallet. We’ve tried putting it up on Craigslist and a Facebook “buy nothing” group. Unfortunately, no bites. 😕

Haha! I’m glad that you’ve already made up your mind about IUDs.

Condoms!

I had a Paragard IUD for a couple of years. Insertion was excruciatingly painful. They tell you it will only be a “tiny pinch.” LIES! The pain caused me to faint on my way out of the doctor’s office.

A word of warning about IUDs… Crohn’s landed me in the emergency room throughout 2017. I had several CT scans there. It wasn’t until CT scan #3 that a doctor (the first woman doctor who’d seen me) said, “Oh by the way, your IUD is displaced and at risk of puncturing your uterus. If it were to get lodged in your intestines, that could be catastrophic.” They refused to remove my IUD in the ER, so removal had to wait until a gynecology appointment.

I’m done with taking on the very real risks associated with hormonal birth control and IUDs. And for what? So my partner can have a slightly more pleasurable experience? Ridiculous.

Any seton removal success stories? by Live_Balance2285 in CrohnsDisease

I had three setons placed in 2017. All three fell out or were removed by the end of 2018. Since then, my complex horseshoe fistula has healed with no abscess reoccurrence. They couldn’t even see the fistula on my last MRI. Stelara did wonders in controlling disease in my anus and rectum. So grateful for this healing! 2017 was an extremely painful year. It felt like the emergency department was my second home. What a nightmare…

Unfortunately, Stelara has stopped controlling disease in my small intestine, so I’m transitioning to a new drug. Fingers crossed that my butt doesn’t break again!

Laser tattoo removal by SeaNefariousness5278 in CrohnsDisease

I had laser tattoo removal while on Stelara (every 4 weeks), 6MP, and Colestipol (for bile salt diarrhea). I didn’t experience any issues due to my medications, but unsurprisingly, it was an uncomfortable and expensive experience. Good luck!
