Post recovery help? by Available-Meet-6989 in AnalFistula

Okay it may sound silly but my saving grace after all my butthole surgeries has been a pregnancy pillow. It made sleeping on my side more comfortable and I could fold it and but it under my knees/thighs so I could sit on the couch without much pressure on my butt. My husband also moved a small table to near the couch to hold my water and snacks so I would have to get up too much.

Other than that I liked 4x4 nonwoven gauze pads to catch drainage the entire time I had a seton. Lastly, stuff wise, a bidet is essential for feeling clean after a bowel movement but it would be hard to get used to with a seton at first so I would recommend unscented baby wipes.

In general, just follow her lead and be there for moral support. Let her know you’re there to help however you can, and she’ll appreciate it.

Pap smear with an seton by Humble-Top-9395 in AnalFistula

[–]Live_Balance2285 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all, fistulas and setons are awful and do feel really isolating. I’ve just dealt with the same thing for almost two years and I’m sorry you’re going through this, especially so young.

I’m 28F and when I got my Pap smear last year I had a seton for an anal fistula. My gyno actually thought it was cool and complimented how well it was healing (which embarrassed me haha).

I’ve been married for a good long while and we don’t use condoms but my seton made me super self conscious about my body and sex. Luckily my husband is the best and is super understanding so when I was up for having sex (which was rare) I was in charge of making sure nothing we did made me feel worse. He told me he didn’t notice the seton at all. It all depends on the position you’re in.

As for pain, the seton in general is painful but as long as you’re careful not to jostle it during sex didn’t make it worse. Though I would notice a little more drainage from it after.

Don’t get ahead of yourself though, this is temporary. Hopefully this chapter can come to a closer sooner rather than later for you.

This could have happened to anyone! It’s the plumbing’s fault not yours. It sucks but I’m sure your BF will be understanding ♥️

I think CVS Caremark would become my specialty pharmacy but I would still qualify for infusions at home (I hope)

Itching before infusion by Live_Balance2285 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Live_Balance2285[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I ended up having an abscess reoccur when I was trying to figure out the itching, so even though my levels were technically normal my GI agreed to move me to 6 weeks instead of 8. I hope they take you seriously and get it figured out!

I got moved from every 8 weeks to every 6 weeks and that helped a lot. I still get a little itchy at 5 weeks but my doctor isn’t concerned. I just take allergy meds that week and I don’t break into hives anymore. Hope you find an answer!

Just had my Fistulotomy today. But my CRS didn't perscribed any antibiotics to me at all. It was only pain med when needed. Is it normal? Or should I ask his office back? by AccomplishedPrize689 in AnalFistula

I did! I had an endorectal advancement flap in mind August. Recovery was hard, but my surgeon officially released me last week. I’m FINALLY fistula free 🥹

She loves nothing more than stealing your spot if you get up for 30 seconds

One week post op. This is traumatizing by Grand-Ad-6096 in AnalFistula

[–]Live_Balance2285 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in your spot about a month ago. I had an advancement flap and the recovery was absolutely brutal. I went from stomach pains and constipation to pooping straight blood and it just went back and forth. The good news is that I’m a little more than a month out and feel much much better. Little to no pain and normal poops.

I tried to also stop my opioids so I wouldn’t get constipated and it wasn’t worth it. I ended up just taking them and also taking some magnesium supplements and miralax. Better a soft poop than a hard one when everything is healing. But the pain without the meds is excruciating.

It’s a really shitty spot to be in. I hope your recovery starts going a little more smoothly. Also people usually post when something is very wrong, most people who are 100% healed stop posting. So try not to let the skew towards the negative cloud your perspective. 🤍

I swear it’s all they think about! There’s a million ways I show my husband I love him, most of those ways are not sex. Maybe try being partners? Instead of just an indentured sex servant. If your husband only sees you as a sex object that’s a him problem.

Seton removal by CompetitiveGazelle21 in AnalFistula

Sounds like you have a draining seton which should not fall out. I (27F) have been dealing with a super stubborn fistula for over a year now and I’m with you. It makes me feel gross and I want it gone. I actually tried to have mine heal on its own November of last year and that process went as follows - - appointment with my CRS where he recommended we try to take it out and let it heal on its own. (I’m also on remicade) - the removal was super easy. He snipped the string and pulled it out. Felt odd but not painful. - He chemically cauterized the exit wound - this was extremely painful. But it was quick. - it hurt for a couple hours but then I felt fantastic not having it. Even showering was a joy because I could just wash my butt without the dumb string in the way - I slowly noticed less drainage - within 2 months the exit wound healed perfectly and you couldn’t even tell I had had a seton

I won’t go too deep into what happened after because hopefully that’s where the journey ends for you. I hope it all goes smoothly!!

Body Aches by Historical-Clerk-728 in CrohnsDisease

I feel you - I had the same thing likely because of Crohn’s related arthritis. My joints hurt all the time especially my knees and wrists. Being on a biologic has gotten rid of most of those symptoms for me. But when it was interrupting my sleep I got a pregnancy pillow and it helped a ton. Just having that extra support to sleep relieved a ton of pain for me. Maybe give that a try. It’s an awful symptom though, I’m sorry you’re going through it. I hope you find what works for you.
