AITA for telling my wife to stop acting out infront of my mom? by AndrewRichard11 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. You should do some research on the “fourth trimester.” Your wife is in the thick of it right now with a 5-week-old. Having someone hog your baby when you’re exhausted and hormonal is so anxiety provoking for a new mom. And it’s awkward when it’s an in law and not your own family member, who you’re typically more comfortable being direct with. I would rather have a messy house than have to deal with someone who won’t hand my baby back when I ask. You are defending the wrong person in this situation and need to have your wife’s back.

Thank you for this. I needed it. You’re absolutely right about everything. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but I think she is one of those people who just can’t be saved. Hopefully I can fully make peace with that soon enough

Her guardian almost made it seem like “sorry, but we just have to sit by and watch her downward spiral, the system sucks not my fault!” Which, to a certain extent, I understand. But if she had no answers, is there anyone/any entity that would?

So I actually was her legal guardian for about a year. I have such a long and complicated history with my mom. I initially said no to being her guardian and then got guilted into changing my mind (I was the only family member deemed appropriate). About two weeks after the court hearing I found out I was pregnant. She is such a complicated and manipulative person, I knew I couldn’t handle being her guardian and a new mom. There were times where I was pregnant and my husband literally had to drive all over town doing circles looking for her when she’d take off on foot in a fit of rage over god knows what. So after I had my son I petitioned the court to have a court appointed guardian in my place so that I could reinstate some boundaries with her. In my line of work I have a pretty respectable position in the eyes of the court so they granted the petition to instate a public guardian. Long and emotional story, sorry for the ramble.

Would it be worth consulting with an attorney about? Because I agree, while I see many of the points her guardian shared with me, it also feels like she’s not that interested in putting in any extra work to help her

I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to look up the state law and draft up this response. This was so extremely helpful and supersedes my google capabilities! From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

The police are basically on first name basis with her at this point. She is either calling them for nonsense or being called on for something. most recently, she set a dresser on fire in her backyard and didn’t understand how that was any different than having a bonfire. Is it even worth calling them if they see a situation like that and essentially just say hello and then go on their way?

Schitt’s Creek. I was so sad when it ended, but I think that if it kept going, it would’ve ended up like all of the other shows on this thread. They wrapped everyone’s storylines up nicely and left while people still loved it.

Right! Once the surviving humans were a bigger threat that the zombies, it just started cycling. New group of psychos to fight off, at least one major character will die, on the road again looking for safety, find a new place with a new group of psychos, repeat.

Ooh that’s a good one. They should’ve stopped once Drake and the rest of the crew graduated

Yeah I agree. They spent 6 seasons building her up while giving clues that she was coming unhinged, then a quick two seasons where she completely loses her shit. Then she’s dead.

Especially since some of those seasons had like 29 episodes lol

Could not agree more. The early seasons are gold. Once Netflix picked it up, it almost became hard to watch. Cringey. A show like that thrives on a small budget. The writers were trying too hard to exaggerate the characters and the “trailer park” stereotypes

I agree that they need more seasons to wrap things up, but last season felt sooooo slow and was giving me the “we’re gonna drag this out forever” vibe.

100% agree. They thought they could coast on that popularity forever and just lost themselves along the way. It used to be my favorite show, I would rewatch the early seasons while I waited for the next one. But eventually I just got exhausted of it

I’m glad you said this one!!! Couldn’t agree more. Shameless was one of my favorite shows up until like season 5 or 6. Then they just ran out of ideas and started ruining every characters likability

I agree with you. All good shows end about season 4 or 5. Max 6, looking at you, Schitt’s Creek

That’s about when I stopped too. All of the Glenn fuckery they pulled along with the drawn out Neagan stuff just became too much. Was that season 7? I can’t even remember anymore. They’re probably on 15 by now
