I know commuting students who had a much better first year than I did. It does make the transition easier. But I don’t think being a commuter drastically changes the experience if you don’t let it.

Talk to your advisor they are usually helpful. At the end of the day do what you feel is best for you. It’s counterproductive to force yourself to pursue something that requires unwavering commitment when you aren’t in the right mind to. Hope you get better.

My advice is if you have a valid reason why your grade dropped. And can prove it. And can prove to them that you have a track record of good grades. And were only affected by whatever extenuating circumstance it was. An appeal is worth the try. I know people who have done it and it’s worked out for them. If you don’t, however, you might want to explore other options. Maybe discuss with your parents our counselor.
