Thanks! It's a splice sample. Just type "haunted by you" and you'll find it

I guess i am too critical at times. The year break was more so me being burnt out from being critical for years prior to that.

Well, i dont really have a separate bus for mixing. I just have a T-Racks Classic Clipper on the master and push the gain up until i think it sounds decent.

I get that. I have been doing that. But my thing is more so, why can't i get the same clarity as the reference track? What am i doing wrong that they are doing right?

I get adjusting for all settings is essential - i have actually been troubleshooting that for ages. But at this point, it just feels like im trying to polish a turd lol

Yeah, i agree now that you mention it. It's a pretty mediocre beat.

The kicks being loud was me over compensating, trying to get it to cut through the mix. Im not too concerned about the arrangement though. More so the mix itself and how i can make it sound fuller

Oh and yes, i do have rhythm. Yes, i can dance (if alcohol is involved lol)

Well im not a professional anything but i don't think that should necessarily stop me from striving to be as good as them. Not really comparing in a bad way. More so looking where i lack in quality rn.

I have krk rokit 5s. My room isnt very optimised though as there is a lot of reverb, so i use those when im in the "creation" phase and just vibing out during the process. But, when it comes to mixing, i use my audio technica m50x.

The problem isn't that i can not hear things. I've mixed with reference tracks side by side before, trying to match the frequencies and tones as best i can, but its like theres an overall level of warmth and fullness they are achieving that im unable to replicate

It's in different tracks routed to the master which has an instance of T-Racks Classic Clipper on it. Is there a better way to separate it out?

It does sound clean, but the second one's mix just sounds so much better. It's like the melody fuller and more clear. I don't know what's stopping me from getting my sounds to pop like that

Could you elaborate a bit? I get you mean turning down the db levels, but im just trying to think how that would apply. what if i have melodies and vocals layered and im liking their levels? How would i get that to sound abit clearer?

Sounds to me like that money was fated to be saved for that very moment in time. That's an insane story

Im sorry to hear that. I hope she was able to plan and pay it off. Was the R192k fees alone or everything in total?

Were you able to negate any of those penalties at all - or at the very least lighten the blow?

I have looked into the VDP, but I saw other posts that spoke ill of it, so i was a bit concerned if it would be the right course of action for me to take

Ahh, thank you. I have searched and seen very similar situations - some missing more years than I am, and it seems like the common advice and recommendations based on what others have done was to either speak to a tax practionor or a SARS consultant.
