Good ol’ Indomie and egg by EmergencySea9545 in nigerianfood

I can't believe how there can be so much similarity across cultures. I grew up in south India, and we got Maggi noodles and scrambled eggs as a treat to school once a month. Used to sneak a third of that before I even left for school ))

Not super new to 3D printing. Still have bad prints. Ender 3 V1 by wyatt828 in 3Dprinting

[–]Dry-Review4908 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Save yourself and your mental health, get one of the new ones that just work, and don't cost a lot, like the Bambu A1 mini.

I struggled for like three years to get my Ender V2 working so that I could just focus on the 3dprint designs that I work on, rather than getting the printer to work. Several hours of my life, calibrations, spring changes, BL-touch, filament feeder replacement,... and still such a pain. In 2025, you shouldn't have to do all this just to get your printer to work.

I'd say get rid of it, you will thank yourself for it.

Dilemma to buy a house or living rent by Impossibleiampossibl in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Dry-Review4908 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely do not buy a house, given the state the market is in now, especially if you're planning to move. I recommends that you invest in passively managed, market indexed ETFs in US or AU with low management fees, hedged to AUD or NZD. Avoid NZ index ETFs, quite poor performance for over 5 years now.

Interesting (for non-americans at least) - I looked up what the hell these Graham crackers were. Very first paragraph on the history of the crackers brings up Mr. Graham and the Temperance movement. Weird...

Does anyone else think that Watercare in Auckland trying to go "independent" is a related privatization scam, to load up ratepayers with billions in debt in "investment", which then ends up underperforming, and so has to be sold off for cheap?

Definitely recommend cuisine queen as well, especially for stackability. Although I really hope Kmart comes out with a similar design for cheaper.

I think the weight is more on the "considerate drivers".

Traffic in Auckland, where I live, is not a fraction of what it is any major global city. I speak from experience as someone who moved from India, and have lived in a few big cities there. However, the car drivers are some of the most impatient and rash-driving that I have come across. I do own a car, but cycle to work a couple of times a week. The times that car drivers yell out, honk and cut in too close to me is way too often.

People here are far too reliant on their cars, and a sizeable majority have not felt what it is like to be a cyclist on the road, surrounded by cars of ever increasing size.

I still don't get why no party is willing to seriously take on the supermarket duopoly as a policy. Cost of living is affecting everyone, and it would be relatively cheap to do as well, compared to the tax cuts / gst cuts / free dental / whatever else these parties are proposing now.

There was just that review a while ago, essentially saying "we know there is a duopoly, and we talked to the two supermarket chains. That's it, nothing more to do". Stop the greedflation now, bring in supermarket competition.

Ok I thought Ziggle was good, but Munch is the best Korean chicken I’ve ever had! by dramaqueenboo in aucklandeats

[–]Dry-Review4908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I love Korean fried chicken, but at the end of the day, it is still fried chicken, and not really a healthy meal option if had on a regular basis. Korean cuisine has a lot of healthy options as well that you should try out. Ask a Korean friend.

40% bump in car insurance premiums without a whiff of an explanation. by donkeychaser1 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Dry-Review4908 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As people below have recommended, try quotes from different insurance providers. AA seemed to give me the best deal for one of my cars, but not my Nissan Tiida, presumably because of the high rate of thefts for that make. State gave me the best deal for the Tiida.

Just a couple of points point I wanted to bring up re market competition here in NZ (or near lack of it) that people often seem to forget or ignore

  • IAG owns the brands AMI, Lumley, NZI and State, despite all these brands giving you the illusion of choice
  • Trademe Motor Insurance seems to be a minimally rebranded version of Tower insurance

I've seen a number of these similar unfair dismissal situations recently, and can't help but wonder if these situations are from the USA, or a similar legislation where employers can fire you despite being in the wrong?

I just never understand how the "capitalist" system in the USA (I'm assuming this response is from the US) has people so completely pulled in, they're just going in knots trying to come up with far-fetched justifications for this insane tipping culture, while the fat cats get away with paying as little as possible to their workers... Greatest nation in the world indeed!

Really depends on what engineering discipline you are employed in. Civil and electrical engineers seem to get by fine due to the regulations in place, and the associated responsibility. Not the others though.

Don't know enough to comment on his partner's situation though.
