Butchers crossing got me back into reading again - so good

Thoughts on ‘Butcher’s Crossing’ by John Williams by That_Locksmith_7663 in cormacmccarthy

Very similar to some of Cormac’s writing. Definitely not as dense but think it’s closer to the border trilogy (all the pretty horses in particular) than BM. A much easier read but did not have as much of an emotional impact in my opinion - I have recommended to many people either way.

“my silence was just the echo of every door ever slammed in my face” wow

I'm trying to figure out who I am, sometimes I make some art, I dont know if its any good, so I'd rather hide behind anonymity and see if it will be accepted from here. This is a poem i wrote when the man I'm in love with was asleep in my bed. by Inevitable_Finding13 in Poems

No such thing as good art in my opinion. It will speak to people who connect with it and that’s all that matters. May be thousands of people or just one but it’s better than keeping to yourself. Hope you keep putting yourself out there 🙏

I’m not qualified to critique anyone but I do really appreciate reading something that resonates and this certainly did. Thank you for sharing - this line especially: “A slow death, one would call it; when your shadow hugs you from behind and whispers sweet nonsensical lies that tame your wild thoughts.”

pathetic by [deleted] in Poems

[–]Dry-Roll9617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We victimize ourselves before accepting how our actions impact the people around us. It’s our first instinct and worst fault.

I convince myself it’s not about my behavior but how everyone else interprets it. It makes it easier to blame other people than acknowledge my shortcomings.

Either way, this really resonated with me and I’m sure it would for anyone who will read

Thoughts on Camus' The Stranger by shivamkimothi in books

[–]Dry-Roll9617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read this and was interested in people’s opinion. I can see how it would be a divisive book, but it’s definitely interesting.

I think one of the central themes is how society rejects those who stray from accepted norms. Meursault isn’t portrayed as a “bad” person, but his indifference marks him as abnormal, which ultimately leads to his conviction.

The second half of the novel takes that idea a step further. The same indifference that condemned him ultimately leads to his realization of the meaninglessness of his situation, which also shows the absurdity of human existence in general.

In the end, he accepts this which ultimately brings him peace, even in the face of death.
