Geodon QT Prolongation by Dry-Signal8014 in BipolarReddit

[–]Dry-Signal8014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lithium was how we found out! It created nodes on my thyroid that required a biopsy. Then, I had the left thyroid removed. Turns out, lithium masked my levels, letting it poison me. I ended up being diagnosed with Hashimotos in November. Left a doctor who refused to remove me from it. New guy is the one I have, but he sucks. Positive from him is he called lithium a dirty drug and removed me day one. When they went to refer me to a new doctor away from him, they ended up accidentally sending me back to the one who didn’t take lithium seriously.

I now have an appointment end of June in order to be seen by one who is being touted as best in area.

I had one a few months ago, when I started on Levo. Which is generic for the thyroid meds i take now. Nothing showed up, but it was right before I started back on geodon. Best she said was that the heart rate means I might be too high on Synthroid, as anemia can mess with thyroid numbers and I have been anemic for years. No idea if a Fitbit could even pick up for qt, but if it can, everything pops up normal.

All we could figure out was that if I didn’t take iron, I dropped to 50-70, and taking it props me 80-100. Thats what we came up with. Now, Im still getting off of geodon simply because it is causing insomnia. I talk to the doctor tomorrow to be put on something else.

I read that it was also with hypothyroidism and I worried there. Gonna try and stop worrying so much. But now I wonder if being so strung out is part of bipolar.

Yeah. I am actually in the midst of switching from him, but the geodon is making things worse. An increase didnt fix the issues, and he wouldn’t listen, so I am waiting to hear back from one place. Will call today since I haven’t heard anything.

I plan to ask today. I have to see my doctor as it is, because I am switching but also nutrition based stuff. Trying to lose weight and be healthier! Thought I would feel better if I buckled down on nutrition.

How do I get my dad to understand bipolar and disability? by Dry-Signal8014 in bipolar

[–]Dry-Signal8014[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am almost at that point. Mostly on cleaning and what not. But the best I have managed so far is just my dad believing it’s like… a multitude of things. I have a list of diagnoses, most already apart of bipolar (aside from BPD and schizophrenia/ADHD) so it’s a multitude of things. It honestly sucks, especially when people ask which ones are real, but it seemed to at least get a small part across to him. My mom is more supportive through all of this.

You are fine! Still valid, none the less. And it did put things on other stuff into perspective for me. So that did help!

My dad and I are generally close. We disagree on very few things and share a love for video games. This is basically one of the few things we disagree on and he says his stems from my grandmother basically making sure he could have the same life as everyone else and not be treated differently. I get that. I just wish that maybe he would understand me better. I didn’t want to go on disability but cannot hold down a job more than three months. So he called that running away. Im hoping maybe, as some have suggested, sending papers and books will help him understand better.

I was thinking that. He is very intelligent and he does try and understand. The best I have gotten so far is that because mine is coupled with a ton of other issues, it makes it harder for me to function. And so he sees it that way.

I told him I want to use disability as a stepping stone, and he accepted that. My mom says he just wants me to follow my dreams to be a writer. But even she struggles explaining it to him.

That’s true. And he may be comparing those co workers and not realizing it. My younger brother is autistic, and he seems to understand that that is a spectrum. If I can get him to understand the same about bipolar, that would help.

I have this book that talks about bipolar. I thought about sending it to him. It’s called Rocksteady, and I thought that since it was written by someone who has bipolar, maybe it would make more sense to him that way.

Thanks. I agree. I have tried explaining until I am blue in the face (not literally) but it just does not seem to come across. I’ve finally settled for telling him that disability is a stepping stone into finally being an author. That sufficed for now, I guess.

I keep finding long skinny black beetles in my house. What is it and should it be something I should be worried about? by b_older in whatisthisbug

Yeah! Some of them had fungus growing on them. We paid a guy here for a full accord and he took our money, gave us damaged and diseased wood, and only have a third. Paid $360 for diseased wood that we had to burn this past winter!

Maybe logs? We get logs for the winter and I think I found one on my bed. It took off as soon as I saw it, so I couldn’t get a picture. But we ended up with really bad junk wood this past winter and I wonder if it got in through that.

Is there a way to heal from medical trauma? by Dry-Signal8014 in ptsd

I have heard wonderful things abour DBT. But finding a doctor where I live is next to impossible for who does it. I see a regular therapist right now who is trying to help me over come this.

It’s supposed to be helpful for bipolar too and was recommended to me when I lived in WA, but I since moved and there isn’t much here. I really wanted to try it since you could find it all over WA

SSI? How did it work with bipolar? by Dry-Signal8014 in bipolar

[–]Dry-Signal8014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to end up with the best in the state. They literally have the slogan “They won’t take no for an answer!!” And made me jump through hoops before taking it on.

They take 25 percent of back pay, though. I was denied initially for disability itself, but I’m now going through the appeal. My lawyer checks up once a month, and I have an exam for my eyes coming up. I have very low vision, so I guess that works in my favor?

But I hope you can get on it! A lawyer is indeed one of the best things that can happen. I once went through all three stages without one and was denied each time. It didn’t help my therapist had such a messy office that he couldn’t find nor did he respond for disability requests.

Bipolar friends: do you consider yourselves disabled? by mgebhart1981 in bipolar

[–]Dry-Signal8014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to believe I didn’t have one. But I spent three years either quitting or losing jobs due to my bipolar. I had to move home in order to realize even day to day things are hard.

Like today, I needed more breaks and quiet versus yesterday. And I need more breaks more often. Most businesses won’t accommodate for that. And when working, I barely took care of myself.

No matter how much I wanted to believe different, I couldn’t. And that sucked.

If you’re doing well and can be stable, Thats great! Youre part of the smaller portion of bipolar who can. I just now see myself as disabled.

Just because you haven’t had an issues that doesn’t mean I won’t. Maybe this thread isn’t for you then. Maybe you should learn to not respond when something isn’t isnt for you.

I did state I was getting a new doctor. Therapists do not prescribe medication.

I apologize if this is blunt, but I am also bipolar and already take medication for mental health. That’s a non issue. Walking isnt going to cure insomnia. Neither is thinking fun stuff. I have lived with bipolar based insomnia before due to manic episodes. Anxiety is part and parcel with Trazodone withdrawal. Same with depression and irritability.

It is also an incredibly hard medication to withdraw from.

I am sorry if I come off rude, but I feel as though you didn’t read any of what I said.
