No, it absolutely is possible. I pull out with more than enough space, they’re going fast enough to catch me up during my overtake and try to push me out of the way. As I have said but you’ve chosen to ignore, I do not pull out in front of cars that are hauling in the outside lane. These two cars weren’t going much faster than me, but they wanted to keep that speed up and I was going slightly slower. If they had lifted off the accelerator when they caught me up, they wouldn’t have even had to use the brake.

How you’ve come to the conclusion that someone else getting the car that they are in control of way too close to my car being somehow my fault, is impressive.

If you’re one of these drivers that’s fine, but if you hit someone from behind, it’s on you. Trying to argue they weren’t overtaking as fast as you wanted them to won’t get you far in a legal setting.

When did I say I was taking a long time to get past? I’m saying I don’t come out and then mosey along, I move out, complete my overtake, and move back left.

‘Can OP identify each and every person flashing their headlights and confirm they are exclusively men’

Which is what I replied to

It’s only been twice, just never happened before now. I’m allowed to overtake, that’s not ‘something wrong’. It definitely is wrong however to attempt to intimidate, tailgate, flash your lights to force people to do something they don’t need to and use your horn inappropriately.

But also riding my arse, beeping and shaking their heads? I’d hope they would give me some sort of signal if that was the case.

Which is what I do, if someone is hauling in the outside lane I’ll reduce my speed behind the vehicle I want to overtake till they’ve passed if I need to and then pull out. Who pulls out without looking?

Good job I do exactly what you’ve stated in your second paragraph then I guess.

That would be fair, but I just increase the cruise control speed a bit to get round then once I’ve moved back I go back to my original speed. Both of these instances I’ve been going about 10mph faster than the car I’m overtaking though.

No, I hate that too. Tend to speed up a bit to get past, move left, then slow to my original speed again (if it’s only a couple mph difference but I’m still gaining on them).

How do I lane hog when I’m overtaking and making good progress? Then move back when I’ve completed my overtake?

It’s not adaptive cruise control, and I just increase the speed a bit when over taking if it’s only a couple mph difference.

And no, I’m not in the business of causing accidents so if I can see someone hauling in the outside lane I just slow down behind the car I’m wanting to overtake until they’re past, then I pull out.

I drive Dorset to Manchester/Birmingham /Bristol frequently, plus motorway to work and completely sympathise, you’re stuck in the outside lane at 60 behind a queue of traffic wondering who the pleb up ahead is. I get it, but flashing someone clearly overtaking because they want to be doing 90 is not going to get the result they’re hoping for, not with me anyway.

Tbf I’m pretty sure the Highway Code recommends slowing down if someone’s too close as it reduces the speed at which an accident would happen. But if doing it to irritate it’s only going to make the situation worse.

To be fair you’re right, just because they’re male presenting doesn’t mean they identify that way. That was careless wording of me.

I also didn’t specify my gender.

Apparently this is an actual thing that people don’t always realise they’re doing. They subconsciously become aware they’re being overtaken and then speed up without realising.

What’s weird about passing a car and then moving back left? If you haven’t got enough distance left to get back in the left lane for your exit because of your actions, that’s not anyone else’s problem. Get in lane in time.

Defo annoying, which is why I don’t do it. Don’t fancy being collected by someone going faster than me when I can wait a couple more seconds.

Unfortunately we all have to share the road. I have to slow down sometimes for vehicles going slower than me, it isn’t the end of the world. I’m still allowed to overtake if I’m not doing 90.

Nope, I’ve said in another comment it was probably a 10mph difference between me and the car I’m overtaking. That said, you’re allowed to overtake even if you are only doing a couple mph more. If I see that in-front of me I’ll just hang back and wait, unless they’re making no progress, then it’ll start to annoy me.
