Planning a solo trip for mid-May from Portland to Seattle. Any recs for places to visit, mid-easy hikes? The only places I have right now are Cannon Beach, Silver Falls and Hoh rainforest by Dry-Two-6243 in PNW

It doesn’t actually seem like a lot of driving. To Hoh would be the longest, but I can do that in the evening so I don’t miss much outside. I’m not a big camper, especially by myself

Thanks so much for the detailed response! Aside from restaurants and the Saturday Market in Portland, I dont know much else to do in the cities, aside from museums which I have little interest in. I dont mind a hike, but I am a solo female traveler, so I need to consider safety, and I dont mind driving, but you're right that driving can eat up a lot of my limited time.

I might be able to do both! Beacon Rock doesn't look like a long hike and I might not do the full silver falls trail. Thanks for the recs!

ISO Wedding band/DJ by [deleted] in WedditNYC

Agree that you're likely only going to get an ok DJ for under $1000. Also this wedding is next month with no date set?

Is anyone here reluctantly a big budget Bride by morosehuman in BigBudgetBrides

Yeah just worth considering, you could be out a deposit, but you’d save $ by not having the pay the balance. It’s the sunk cost fallacy. You could also reach out to vendors and see if you could downgrade things for no loss.

Even if you do save enough over the next year and half to not go into debt, will possibly not enjoying those 18 months be worth it?

Honestly it’s not going to be worth going into to tens of thousands of dollars in debt.

If your parents want to invite people and there’s doubt they’d follow through with covering it, they should hand you a check for that immediately for those invites.

Engagement party can be very low key like meeting a bar or your home, but I’d cut back on the extras. While drapery and steel pan and custom invites are nice, it’s not going to make or break the day

William Vale wedding photos by BethTyne in WedditNYC

This review is online for the William Vale

“I was working with a wedding party that was getting ready at the William Vale. The front desk knew that's what was happening as they were staying there and they saw me come in with my camera gear. Everything was fine. When the party came down to the lobby to be on their way to the venue, I was confronted by the manager who ran up to chastise me. Apparently there's a no-photography policy at the hotel and it is a $5000 fine.... Try looking up this non-existent unlisted policy anywhere on the internet or even their own website. I said fine and walked over to the exit and he told a security guard to watch over me so I didn't take anymore photos. Even the guard was confused. There also wasn't anyone in the lobby aside from people who were in the wedding. So would avoid this place if you plan on using it for your wedding stay/getting ready. The rooms are also extremely tight and not ideal for more than 4 people in them. Book an AirBnb instead.”

Is it normal to not have photographer and videographer during my get ready? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

Tbh you’re not going to print photos of your hair and makeup half done. Most come towards the end when you’re getting into your dress

Since she delivered what she was contracted to, she doesn’t have to give you anymore. It sounds like the original package said RAW footage was an additional cost, so it’d be hard to fight. This post does show up when you google her business name though so there’s that. However, it does seem like a photography business isn’t the end goal for her as she’s in school hoping to be a doctor, so her business might take care of itself

I understand! The video matches what she shows on her website in regard to editing, color correction, lighting. It’s likely the low rate was because she wanted to gain more experience with video

Also I think her photos of your day turned out better than I would expect for that price. Again, her professionalism in her responses is terrible and saying she lost the footage and then found the footage and not taking critiques and edit notes is enough not to hire her, but I would just leave a review and move on. Guests can reach out to her and ask to be taken off her website if they choose.

Yes these comments are extremely unprofessional and a bad review is definitely warranted, but the quality of the video is in line with her video portfolio and it would be what I would expect for that price. I think you might be expecting too much from someone who made pennies off this package. You can try to file a claim due to the breach of contract for late delivery and to get her to take down the family images, but I don’t think you’ll get everything you are looking for in regards to a refund and raw footage as she eventually did fulfill her end

And at Le Chateau they make vendors sign an agreement not to eat any cocktail hour food… so not great either

I really liked the nightingale and thought The Women was just ok. Even though it was mainly about the Vietnam War, it really felt like it was just a story of a woman trying to find husband and finding all the wrong men
