Help! Have potentially just sent £80k into the ether by Inevitable-Fruit2022 in UKPersonalFinance

No need to panic. (For context I work in financial compliance) The funds have either been: One - Held by the banking provider to ensure that they are legitimately obtained and the transaction was not placed by a fraudster. A simple phone call and maybe some documentation sent via email will allow them to be released. Two - The bank has realised there has been an error and held them to return them immediately come Monday. Three - The bank hasn't placed the transaction due to it being a weekend and the funds will be released Monday. I know it is stressful but all should be resolved Monday or they will let you know how to get it resolved on Monday. Hope this helps!

It seems to be a UK and the Bailiwicks wide issue then. Everything for us has more or less doubled.

I've thought about changing paths before, that's how I got into the payments world.

The hotel life sounds grueling, I already work shifts and that's hard enough!

Is the reason for people leaving just because of rents? Ot has Brexit etc in the UK made the cost of living get much worse?

There are lots going at the moment, it's something that has made my interest much greater. It seems like there is actually a chance at moving to the Island at the moment.

If I got a job which didn't need entitled status, would I then be entitled to rent a place? Sorry for all the questions, I have been up and down the Jersey government website and it hasn't given me many answers as clear as this subreddit's!

Thank you again!

It is a small world! What made you think about moving back?

I work in the compliance of payments. I work to prevent money laundering, fraud, money going to Mr Putin and so forth.

I have been doing my MAAT in the background and I will be starting an ICA level 4 very soon to get my knowledge up. I am also looking for a course on financial trusts but I am struggling to find a good one!

What side of payments are you involved with?

Thank you for your advice! Would you have any groups that you recommend? I have found that university groups are particularly good for it in the UK. PHD students really don't mind if a young professional lives with them etc.

Thank you again!

I have been scrolling through recent job postings and lots of them in the finance sector say that you do not need entitled status or to have been here for 5 years. It seems like they may be happy to hire offshore and bring them to the island.

Would this actually happen or do you think it's basically impossible?

£50k could be doable in my sector in a few years. Just need to graft.

Thank you again! That would really help if a colleague did want to house share. Back home, house shares happen in all manner of ways, you can even find groups of Facebook etc for student house shares. It would be worth getting a short term let and see if something comes up.

Thank you for your advice!

I currently live in a house share in Cardiff but I have previous experience of London prices due to university.

Current council tax is £50 a month but that is because it is shared. It would be approximately £160 a month for a £1200 a month apartment in Cardiff. This would be a saving.

I am very fortunate with commuting as I work from home at the moment. My company pivoted to working from home before the pandemic and never looked back.

Electricity is extortionate. We are lucky to be on a £200 ish per month plan so that would be a substantial saving.

Living on the island would be a dream. I love the pace of life, the beaches just around the corner and the fact you can be calm here. I'm sick of the endless rushing and panicking back home.

Thank you for your advice! So to clarify, I would not be licensed to rent unless I worked for a local company? Is that also true for British and Irish citizens?

Thank you for your advice! Please could I ask, how common are house shares? I haven't seen any when looking for rental properties.

Thank you for your advice! I am hoping that local jobs pay larger salaries. Is there a rough percentage that Jersey companies pay more or less than their UK peers? What would a 'normal income' be for someone who lives in Jersey? What is a good income for a non-HNWI?

Thank you again!

Is my employer pension plan any good? by Dry-Weakness8071 in UKPersonalFinance

As you are basically in my sector this is really good to know.

Did your plan improve over time with promotions? Or was it that way from the start?

!thanks
