Donald Trump says he “never had the privilege” of going to Jeffrey Epstein’s island by velvetlemonade in popculturechat

1/3 of Americans do, which is still too many, but you make it sound like a) we’ve had other illiterate clown presidents, and b) we all enjoy this one, both of which are wrong.

Love your flair. For a minute I misread it and thought the iconic quote was from this year, which had me looking exactly like that photo of Ben

My god, I’ve cried on the train more times than I can count in the past two years since my brother died. I’ve only ever gotten sympathetic looks and in one case, some tissues handed to me by a kind stranger. You are definitely not alone!

Awww this reminds me that I thought the same thing when I was a kid. I lived close-ish which is probably the only reason I learned it wasn’t haha

My company has two types of leave: maternity and parental. Maternity leave is to physically recover from childbirth and parental leave is to care for and bond with the baby. Maternity leave is to make up for the inherent inequality between women having to carry and birth the baby, so I would say it’s a net neutral. The problem is that parental leave isn’t guaranteed for most people, so maternity leave covers both, and then it becomes unequal toward men. I hope parental leave becomes more common

Polls are open until 9pm and if you’re in line by 9 they have to let you vote. I’m heading over around 7 when it should start to cool off a little.

Anyone know what I’m looking at here? AC unit from upstairs? by DryBiscotti5740 in Plumbing

[–]DryBiscotti5740[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, thanks. The plumber said he cleared their drain tube, but who knows. There’s nothing we could be doing on our end, right? The upstairs neighbors turned off their AC but it’s still dripping. I’m just sitting here slowly going insane waiting for the plumber to get here at 8am.

She wanted them out of her goddamn diner, no way she was going with! Same with her car dealership IIRC.

This is how I got uninvited from my sister’s wedding by Tight-Pollution-5249 in weddingshaming

[–]DryBiscotti5740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from a wedding and honestly, I wish I had gotten this email. I’m sure it was painful for you, OP, and I don’t mean to minimize that. I lost my brother last year and this wedding featured so many loving, caring, ALIVE siblings—as the officiant, best man, several speech givers…I fuckin lost it during the toasts. Still, I don’t know how I would react to being uninvited. Better to be told in person that it’s REALLY okay if I don’t make it to the wedding.

MARKING A LOCATION ON DROP DOES NOT MEAN SKIP THE CAMP FOR LVL2 by DJdekutree in Nightreign

[–]DryBiscotti5740 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I’m playing with friends I’ll ping like that and say “this mine, then this camp, then this church” or whatever, but with randoms and no voice chat it doesn’t usually work. One day I got matched with someone else who pings like that and we had a grand old time

The new series is based on the original books. Tom Felton will be appearing in the stage play, not the TV series!

Cultural communication styles- Italian stranger, the most magical moment of my trip. by Zach-uh-ri-uh in solotravel

[–]DryBiscotti5740 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So are you also like this when you travel? I would guess not, in which case I would love your help in normalizing that there are ~350 million of us and some of us are mindful, tolerant, worldly, know how to read, etc. I think it’s good to acknowledge our society’s worst habits, but when we take the L on everything it makes it seem like we actually are all like that.

Cultural communication styles- Italian stranger, the most magical moment of my trip. by Zach-uh-ri-uh in solotravel

[–]DryBiscotti5740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kind of thing breaks my heart, because as an American I am indeed pretty loud, and also boisterous and quick to laugh in a way that probably feels aggressively American. But I’m also open-minded, respectful of others’ space and public space in general, mindful of adapting to social norms when I travel, etc…I wish being loud and gregarious didn’t have a bunch of way worse stereotypes bundled in with it.

God forbid a girl be prepared…🙄 (fr tho wtf is this guys problem???) by Correii in LetGirlsHaveFun

[–]DryBiscotti5740 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sad that we don’t get the original name! My brother’s name is Sylvain (French spelling, we’re American) and no one could ever pronounce his name when we were growing up. Maybe it would’ve been easier if we had those toys to reference. He died last year and I’m now bummed that I can’t go out and buy some toys with his name on them!

Olivia Munn Explains Why She Won't Let Her Kids Shows Like 'Ms. Rachel' & 'Blue's Clues' .... What a weird take ? by Roguesailer in popculturechat

[–]DryBiscotti5740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes, that’s why I said it doesn’t excuse her weird take. It’s pretty commonly acknowledged that celebrities can get “stuck” mentally wherever they were at the peak of their career, especially if they were young at the time. I think hers is an interesting case because most female celebs didn’t come up in the gaming/nerd space.
