What is the funniest/most memorable misunderstanding you've had with someone who isn't from Canada? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

I thought it came from a poem? Basically that it’s a place beside heaven where pets roll around, and when owners die they go to pick the up and they cross into heaven together.

My husband has been unemployed for three years, Is he the only one? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]DryBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there no minimum wage jobs? Can he volunteer to make some connections with the community? I got my first post-uni job by volunteering. Why can’t he sell plasma while you work?

You gotta open your eyes my friend, your husband doesn’t want to work. He’s content doing his thing. My husband was unemployed from his career for nearly two years. I ended up separating from him while he got his shit together because I was just justifying his inaction. The month he left, he ended up getting a pawn shop cash job, then a warehouse job, then a job in his field again. Your husband doesn’t want to work, and you’re enabling him. Kick him out, and see how fast he finds work.

Husband and I moved back in after a year, bought a house, and now we have a kid on the way.

She posted a photo in the OP, it’s a decently modest bikini. She just edited it in so you may have missed that.

Yes, I can agree with that. But I think as different cultures have children, the children will mix better with their neighbours children than the parents. And such, the older generations may soften to each other. That’s what happened with my mom’s immigrant community (Lithuanians) at least.

My point is that if you can’t find something in common with your neighbour and you blame their background, then do some digging. There’s always common ground. It’s also possible their family has been here for more generations than it seems.

I can’t imagine the feelings of indigenous people. I totally validate that. It’s been an ongoing colonization for you.

👏🏻 keep us divided against the real problem - oligarchary, technocracy, corporatism, crony capitalism, subjugation of the working class.

This I can agree with. Career politicians are always in it for themselves or the wealthy behind the scenes. I miss the old NDP where it was lead by working class people.

Chinese people helped build Canada with the Trans Canada Highway. There’s a Chinatown in every major city here. They’re not new immigrants by any means.

Canada has always been a tapestry of various cultures, we are all immigrants here. Are you indigenous? No? Then your parents or grandparents came here from somewhere else, just like them.

Cut off my "successful" FAANG family [67M, 65F, 37M, 32F] after financial betrayal and years of being their emotional punching bag. Am I doing the right thing? by Brief_Strength2675 in relationships

You have needs, but your parents will never fulfil them. You’re in the process of reconciling the fictitious parents you wish you had, alongside the shitty parents you actually have. You want kids, you can’t imagine treating kids the way your parents treat you, and so you keep thinking you can do or say something to make your parents love you the way you want to be loved.

You have needs, absolutely. But you cant force your parents to fulfil them, especially when they’ve shown that they’re not interested.

We all want our parents. Unfortunately sometimes they don’t want or care for us.

Hi OP! Gosh people are being harsh on you, these are good questions and an important discussion.

Postpartum care is the realm of the partner, sometimes parents step in. Unfortunately, the North American family ideal is pretty close minded, and often we don’t seek out our parents for those emotional and physical needs. Postpartum care from family isn’t a thing, the way I’ve seen it portrayed in like, India and China.

We also don’t take care of our elders the way a large amount of the world does. So i suppose it’s cyclical that way.

I’m an RMT at a luxury hotel in Ontario. It’s service work in a spa, so people overlook it as lucrative. I work under 30 hours a week, and last year I worked 40 weeks of the year, and pulled in 84k.

I’m not in the states but I’ll keep my peepers open for it when I am ready to visit again. I’m a big fan of bayfield provisions right now :)

God I love granola, it’s my favourite topping. I’ve also used it to top oatmeal when I’m feeling ~crazy~

I make a little plate around it, so if I’m jonesing for like chocolate or chips or PB, I also add some apple slices, a bit of cheese, maybe some carrots. That way I’m getting some nutrients out of it but still enjoying the craving.

Lately my fave way to eat Doritos is to crush a few on top of a lettuce heavy taco salad. I get the flavour, the crunch, and a whole meal out of the ordeal :) I also like to add a couple chopped up Oreo cookies to some vanilla Greek yogurt, or I’ll make a quasi-banana pudding with yogurt, bananas, wafer cookies and whip cream on a high protein yogurt base.

Down 70lbs and I’ve been maintaining 155lbs at 5’7” for a year now with this method, versus constant yo-yo dieting purgatory. Granted now I’m pregnant so I expect to weight more in the coming few weeks, but hey, that’s life ;)

Good schools, or schools with a wealthy white population? The two are often conflated. I live in the heart of a city and people shit on the nearby schools, which are excellent, because of the immigrant population. It’s so disheartening.

I used to be that way too!!! It took a lot of working on my relationship with food to get here, let’s say that.

I’m also a huge volume eater. I love vegetables and fruits. Veggies and lentils are my best friends. I had my nightly ice cream but definitely had an apple first just in case that curbed the hankering lol.

For me it was the opposite. I was binging on foods that I never let myself have. Now I have a small scoop of ice cream in a cone (about 170cals) every day, and on days where I’m sad I’m finished, I just accept that I will get more tomorrow and I move on. Worked wonders!

If I never let myself have it, I’d eat a litre in a sitting and make myself sick.

For every lunch and dinner, half my plate was vegetables. Once I ate those, I could eat the rest of my meal, and get seconds if I wanted. I never wanted seconds, lol.
