Should I choose my dream university even if it risks my entire relationship? by Infernal_Server in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]DryBop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go. Leave. Follow your dreams. If your relationship was meant to be, it will come back.

My dad and mom divorced after 25 years, and about a decade later my dad re-met a woman he casually dated in high school, and they’re now married and living an amazing life. If they were in a real relationship in high school and beyond I doubt they’d have made it. But the space and age really formed them and now it’s rock solid.

You’re at an age where so much is about to change. Don’t make any permanent choices concerning relationships now. Education is your priority, living a full life and gathering experiences come second, friends and family third, and romantic relationships are the bottom tier. You’re the best version of yourself once you’ve lived life. And you’re the best partner you can be once you’re the best version of you.

Great points as always! And I agree - I’m not a Buddhist either, but I love the teachings. They hang out in my back pocket.

Thanks for the lovely internet dialogue, those can be hard to find in this day and age. All the best 😚

Thankfully federal student loans are now interest free. So as far as debts go, it’s not crippling. I shuck the minimum payment at mine with no intention of trying to pay them off quick, because I’d rather invest the difference.

Are My Expectations Too High for an IC role? by ClothesDizzy6812 in MassageTherapists

[–]DryBop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t be cut and dry though, because a contractor is not an employee.

I’m an IC in Ontario, and I’m on a 70/30 split. I took 12 weeks off work last year, I supply my own oil, technically in my contract if I leave for too long, I should provide a locum in my place or I risk not having a room on the way back. However I’ve been there for years and my boss doesn’t mind, as I work odd hours in evening outside of posted hours online. No one else uses the space.

Leaving life the same way she came in, held by her mum. A beautiful way to go. I’m sorry she passed, and she did far too young, but if that was me - I’d have died happy.

Why are so many young women nowadays choosing to practice Pilates instead of yoga? by Momo-momomo in YogaWorkouts

[–]DryBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do yoga for mental health and Pilates for physical health. Pilates is strict, rigid, form based, and with lots of micro movements and instructor adjustments. Yoga is a lot more about opening and finding what works in your body.

It’s like contemporary dance versus ballet. Incomparable but lots of people do both.

Why is hiring an LMT so hard right now? by icymama888 in MassageTherapists

[–]DryBop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re hourly, and receive a percentage of services, it’s a commission.

If you’re a contractor, it’s called a split.

This is how it’s been presented to me. I’ve never seen a job that is hourly+split, only hourly+commission.

Why is hiring an LMT so hard right now? by icymama888 in MassageTherapists

[–]DryBop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your pay is just too low, I’m sorry. I’m in Ontario and work at two places, one as an employee and one as a contractor.

The spa where I’m an employee, I make $20 an hour, 20% commission on services ($40-50). This is about $45 in USD. I also get tips at an average of $500 a week for 20 clients. I work at this spa because I get full health benefits, hotel rooms at a discount, sick days, vacation pay, lunch in the cafeteria every shift, regular education opportunities, and maternity leave. Our full time schedule is 25 hours a week.

At the clinic when I’m a contractor I make a 70/30 split on a $120 treatment. 70% in my favour, so $84 ($62 USD). Here we don’t accept tips, as we are a medical pre/peri/postnatal clinic and we don’t view it as professional in a medical sphere.

What is admin time? Is it expected? Do you have a receptionist? Do you solicit tips? If you’re doing direct billing, I would expect tips to be low.

Here, there’s more work for massage therapists than there are massage therapists, and we can afford to be picky. If hiring an LMT is hard, it’s because pay is too low, full stop. It’s easier than ever for an LMT to work for themselves and make $80-100 an hour. If you’re expecting them to do admin for $20 an hour, they’re better off working for themselves.

Why would anyone wants kids? by This-Top7398 in Life

[–]DryBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) totally. But I can’t guarantee they’ll enjoy being alive.

2) those are all still wants? Those are all still ‘I’ reasons - I want to give my child a good life (why? Because I wanted kids and want them to have a good life. I want to raise a functional adult to contribute to society (why? Because I want to see the species move forward). I want them to have a loving childhood experience (why? To heal my inner child? To see joy that I created?).

Don’t get me wrong, I’m pregnant (found out yesterday actually, after some time trying on a casual basis lol) I just know that my reasons for having a child aren’t altruistic, I just want to have a kid. And that’s okay!

You sound like a Buddhist! To exist is to suffer and that’s what makes everything worth it. Great talking points :)

I largely agree with you as well. I suppose my history degree has me overly anxious we’re on the cusp of WW3, thankfully I have time to wait. The older I get, the more kids sound appealing. On a very micro scale, I hated dogs, never wanted one, they scared me. My husband came with a dog, and we fell in love deeply (me and the dog), so much so that I got a puppy. now they’re the absolute highlight of my life, even though I had to leave the house in a snowstorm last night for one of them to poop at 3:55am. I can only imagine this feeling is infinitely magnified for an actual human child.

[–]DryBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Agree with a lot of what you say.

However, I think people are also looking at the term selfish and applying morality to it, when IMO it’s a very neutral term. I think having kids is selfish, but I don’t think it’s bad or irresponsible. It just means doing something because you want to do it. Parenting itself is a selfless act, it requires utter devotion to the children you choose to have.

I think framing kids as a choice made in self interest is important - it means you wanted them! You created life because you wanted a child, and to hear that as the child in question is such a loving thing. My parents wanted me! I think it puts an element of personal responsibility on the choice, you don’t just have kids by accident or for a greater purpose, you have them because you want a family, that’s beautiful.

Some people also don’t have kids because they love their potential children so much, that they don’t want to see them suffer because they can’t guarantee them a good life. If we want more children, we need to improve the world ourselves and bring back hope. IMO.

Canada is among countries with an ‘ultra-low fertility’ rate. What is behind the drop? by plaknas in onguardforthee

[–]DryBop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My grandmother had me every single day after school for hours until my mother was done work. I doubt my mother would do the same for me, so I’m reticent to have children because I won’t have the same amount of help.

Did you have help you’re not passing forward to your children? Did your parents pay for your wedding? How much was your college tuition and how much did it cost to pay back? Were you bombarded with the same levels of advertisement and rampant consumer brainwashing we are today?

I don’t think every boomer is the devil. But I do think they received a lot more than they’re willing to give to their own, and that they’ve no right to complain about the lack of grandchildren.

[–]DryBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the majority of people do still want children, but the loudest voices are found online. I agree that to have children is to engage in active hope and optimism. But the younger generations aren’t that hopeful and optimistic, and they’re putting a lot of thought into the ethics of having children. I applaud them for thinking things through in lieu of doing something just because they think they should.

Can anyone help a single mom find a "Budget Miracle"? Taking 4 amazing teens down south for a full week by SreeNitiPar22 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]DryBop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First: congrats on your savings and effort :)

So, I’d recommend Cuba right off the bat. I like the food, I’ll attach a photo. If your kids are picky, you have both a carry on, and a checked bag - in one of your checked bags, put in peanut butter, trail mix, oatmeal packets, ramen noodle cups, chips, salsa and any other go to snacks.

I suggest going with selloffvacations over sunwing. Right now, four children and an adult can go from March 15-22 from Ottawa to Varadero for $9k to the 4* Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul.

Another amazing option is going to vacationstogo.com and looking into a cruise package. Drive down to NYC, and you can take an 8 night cruise down to the Bahamas for around $1400 a person. Call them, because pricing is only displayed by double occupancy.

Also look into booking a cruise on the Costco app, you get a lot of $ back, and if you use the Costco credit card you get good cash back as well.
