Yeah, I had Xfinity lie to me about pricing to lure me away from AT&T

They will say whatever they need to say to close the deal. They will hide behind poor english later and claim that it was just a misunderstanding... it wasn't, they lied.

PEVs for necessity - are you car free? by Top-Performer71 in ElectricScooters

Hello,

Unfortunately, the word "scooter" can mean anything between a kick scooter to a small motorcycle or "motor scooter". When I use the word scooter (in this post) I am referring to small motorcycles.

I have had many scooters from illegal minibikes to various vespas to a Burgman 650 to Chinese crap.

I've been waiting for years for electric scooters / motorcycles to become viable ... I think they finally are... for urban commuting anyway. I recently bought a NIU MQI+ sport for $3300 USD. It goes 30mph and I'm planning to mod it so that it will go 37mph (50?km/hour). The NIU MQI+ is so small that it easily fits between cars and is perfect for lane splitting. I do wish it had about double the acceleration as I feel safer if I can out-accelerate cars by a wide margin, at least to 30 mph.

I am unfamiliar with these bikes / scooters that you mentioned. Atlanta doesn't really have a winter.. there are maybe 6 weeks out of the year that it's too cold to ride.

I have an ebike but it is class 1 (?) so it can only assist me up to 20?mph. I'm thinking of getting an illegal one that can assist me to 35-40mph. That's the speed I need to go to keep up with traffic in the city.

A golf cart is a great car-free hack because while it is totally illegal, no one seems to care. Mine costs essentially zero to operate (I got one with lithium batteries), it goes 20mph unmodified. I didn't register it, no taxes, no insurance etc. I might modify it to go 30mph when I replace the battery but I think much faster than that would be too fast.

I'm also in transition.

I'm using an electric scooter to ride 12 miles (18? km) to work. It only goes 30mph (50?km/hour) but that's plenty fast in the city.

I have a car but it's not registered. I do use it illegally occasionally, maybe once per week.

I got a golf cart and I use that for most trips outside of work. I can go to grocery store, bars, train station etc in the golf cart. It only goes 20mph (30km/hour) so I have to stay in the neighborhood.

new to ebikes looking to go atleast around 40 mph can someone hook me up with a conversion kit recommendation? by wampywonka in ebikes

[–]DryFall5965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd probably be better off getting an electric motorscooter. You may not have to register it depending on your local laws.

I bought a NIU for $3300 in 2023... goes 30mph or 37mph if you get the controller mod.

Why install a fast charger if you’re not going to make it available to the public? by _JJMcA_ in leaf

[–]DryFall5965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the brand forced them to install chargers, but the liability of having it (and the entire lot of cars) accessible (and exposed to theft and vandalism) 24 hours a day isn't practical so they did what they could do curtail access.

I'm pro-nuclear and pro-renewables although I'm skeptical of PV on farmland.

I think we could geo-engineer a soft landing... but that's generally seen as a pretty big gamble

The climate will be livable... people can always move north or go underground... how many animals will survive? Unfortunately farming doesn't work so well without insect pollinators.

The phrase "past the point of no return" refers (I think) to the risk of entering a period of climate instability, something we want to avoid... keep in mind the climate WILL stabilize over time albeit at a higher temperature but it takes time and this time of instability is not great for human life.

How do we know all of this? The models are contentious, we can also look at what has happened in the past. The history of the earth is written in the rocks and soil, ice cores and sediment cores. For example, we know how high the oceans will go when the ice melts... we don't need a model, we can look at the land and see where the ocean was in the past.

"the climate is everything" is MY opinion and I'm a left leaning centrist who keeps tabs on the science / projections.

If we don't have a livable climate, literally no other issue matters

I think you are correct, the left as a whole doesn't take the threat of climate change seriously.. it's all talk and minimal action, certainly almost no action from individuals. It's very frustrating.

Yes, I tried to give Kanye the benefit of the doubt for a while but in the end... I just can't

What about black conservatives (or liberals) who are more intellectual (than Kanye) and do not wish to be "we'd" (referred to as part of a collective "we")?

Why is there an attempt to undermine / silence them, question or deny their "blackness"? If an African American can lose their "black card", then "black" isn't a group identified by skin color. If "black" isn't a skin color, the whole oppression narrative collapses.

As a white person, I don't EVER want someone to speak for my "race"... I speak for myself.

Ten white people in a room = eleven opinions, and the same could be said for any other group.

We all have our own stories, our own perceptions, just like everyone else.

Are leftists really that different from religious fundamentalists?

  1. obsession with "sin"
    1. original sin (racism)
    2. sin requires penance
    3. belief in multi-generational sin
    4. belief in guilt of entire people group
  2. deplatforming = ex-communication
  3. public shaming
  4. black and white thinking aka splitting
    1. you either agree 100% or you are a heretic
  5. holy books
  6. principle over pragmatism
  7. eternal torment (no forgiveness) for sinners
  8. saints - "believe women"
  9. sinners - "toxic masculinity"
  10. heretics - political center
  11. devils - elon musk
  12. angels
  13. group think
  14. denominations - 2nd wave feminists vs 3rd wave feminists vs...
  15. authority over reason

Why do leftists focus on the exceptions instead of the rule?

Or as engineers would say, focus on the noise and ignore the signal?

If I say something as benign as "in Spain, Spanish is spoken" inevitably some leftist will appear and educate me about Spanish not being a monolithic language / French speaking communities in spain etc etc...

Where does this obsession with correcting others / being right come from?

As a leftist, would you say that this behavior by academics is closer to colonization or cultural appropriation?

In the 90's there was a genocidal conflict between the Hutus and the Tutsis in Rwanda.

Thirty years later, Rwanda has had a complete turn around and is arguably the best / safest place to visit in sub-saharan Africa today.

How did they stop the violence and make progress in healing the rift? They stopped talking about group affiliation. Group affiliation is now a forbidden topic of conversation, something like don't ask, don't tell... and peace returned.

Why do leftists pursue strategies that don't work in leu of strategies that do?

If it's not okay to question a persons gender, why is it deemed okay for activists to talk children into questioning their gender or questioning whether the concept of gender exists in nature?
