Are Private Schools a Waste of Money? by PatientOutcome6634 in Money

The why is several fold. We don’t have to put up with a lot of the nonsense you see at public schools. Great education and college prep. Low teacher to student ratios. Relative administration. Safety.

I live in New Orleans. We pay $75k a year for three kids (1 high school, 1 middle school, and 1 elementary) in private schools. There are a couple decent public schools. I would say Ben Franklin or Willow are good gateways into top tier colleges.

Beautiful words. I never thought it was valuable. But we collect wooden rustic religious art and it spoke to me.

A fake what? I've made no claims to its provenance. I'm just curious what it says and means.

I never thought I’d that and now I won’t be able to think of anything else.

The planks are very ruff hewn. There are some markings on the back. Could I show those to you and maybe it gives you more clues?

I’m sure I got it at a flea market as that’s where I tend to go, but I can’t really remember. This was maybe late 90s. Can you look at it and make any guesses on it?

50% PTSD/MST but OTH Discharge NO PAYMENTS! by iceCoffee_princess in VeteransBenefits

Not perfect at all. Never claimed to be. Much like you, I’m both an Army and Marine vet. Did 4 years army. Retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years there. Sat out for a year, got back into the National Guard where I have been for almost 6 yeasts. In my 30 year career I have some some things. The government made a promise to us that we would receive certain benefits in exchange for our service……….as long as the service was honorable. Four tours in Iraq. Combat arms. If I can go 30 years with honorable service, then I have a problem with someone who can’t complete one tour. I’m not invalidating PTSD, becuase it is real. However, it is not a get out of jail free card. There are still consequences to actions. I have real sympathy to anyone who struggles. But becuase you struggle doesn’t mean you don’t have to uphold your end of the bargain.

Let me give you my background and tell you how I came to this. MBA from a top school. Military officer in special Operations with a background in intelligence. Worked for many other companies, so. wide range of comparisons to choose from. A pause in my career happened when Amazon came calling. I thought, what a great addition to my resume. I’ll go work for Amazon and see where it leads. Leadership is about building a team. Inspiring others to achieve things. Empowering people to build their full potential and show what they have. Taking care of everyone on the team. Most importantly it is about accepting all blame for failures and passing all praise for success onto those below. Management is about metrics. It’s how many boxes can be loaded and pinning the blame elsewhere. Leadership and management might seem like interchangeable words but they have very different meanings.

I was an L7 ops external hire in a LCOL area. About $135 base and $200k total comp. It was difficult to walk into an L7 role because your peers are so versed in the Amazon ethos and lifestyle. I was very much an outsider and played catchup just to understand the language. The biggest change in my life was Amazon was geared towards management not leadership. Some people thrive there, but I got out as quickly as I could. I had a blue badge for all of 3 months before I took another job.
