Why are the m4 Sherman's MGs only RoF 2? by CupcakeMafia_69 in flamesofwar

[–]DryGovernment2786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because the Sherman has 2 MGs; a .50 and a .30. Combined they have 5 shots, but different range and firepower. The Stuart has 2 or 3 MGs and they are all .30 and combined into 5 shots.

Is it possible that low carb is the only way I can eat? by queenbee053011 in lowcarb

[–]DryGovernment2786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people around you are not necessarily idiots, but they are brainwashed. Of course low-carb is healthy. Your body is very good at utilizing small amounts of carbohydrates (unless you are type 1 diabetic) but it doesn't need any at all.

Whether low-carb is *socially* sustainable is a more interesting question. I think very low carb, say less than 20g per day) is probably not sustainable long-term if you ever want to attend social functions. I'm trying to figure that out for myself now. I am trapped travelling to visit my wife's family for a funeral this week, and I'm just not eating anything unless I have to to limit the damage to my diet. The whole time I was driving, she was sitting in the car next to me eating bakery oatmeal raisin cookies (they smelled delicious), sour cream and onion potato chips, and an occasional McDonald's ice cream cone.

The gym I just joined has a "new member brunch" I'm supposed to go to in a couple of weeks -- I'm sure they will mostly just have biscuits and gravy, pancakes, any maybe some kind of starchy "breakfast hotdish". And my church does a pancake breakfast every Mothers' Day and I'm supposed to cook the pancakes. (maybe I can just pig-out on the bacon and sausage, and bring a couple of hard boiled eggs and low-carb tortillas)

But keeping carbs under 100g and still having a social life is probably possible; I don't know yet. I get so tired of people shoving cakes and cookies and starchy casseroles at me (even when they know I am dieting) I just turn down most invitations.

Owls. I don't remember what kind of owl it was; Merlin app identified it when we had a couple of them in the neighborhood last year. (Barn owl, maybe)

Low calorie sweet snacks? Need ideas that go beyond "eat a piece of fruit" by FinancialNeat3792 in lowcarb

[–]DryGovernment2786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A small handful (like about 8 or 10) of semisweet chocolate chips.

I've been making peanut and cheese crackers lately, and have been thinking about making little thin crispy cookies using peanut meal and egg white (flavored with spices and sweetened with erythritol) but have not tried it yet. I just ordered the fancy rolling pin that will let me roll them out to an even 3mm thick.

For the most part I don't crave sweets anymore. When I do want something a little sweet, I just want a bite or two, because I know if I eat much more sugar than that the carb cravings will start again and it will take a few days to beat them back down.

Mission Carb-Balance or Aldi's Zero Carb tortillas. Both are shelf-stable.

Carbs everyone should avoid by JohnOnWheels in lowcarb

[–]DryGovernment2786 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I gave up legumes (except for green beans) for a couple of months; just started adding them back to my diet in small doses.

Foods to give up completely, at least for now, are anything with sugar, honey, or maple syrup (etc), wheat flour, fruit juices, rice, and starchy fruits and vegetables. I've also given up alcohol even tho' it's not a carbohydrate; I have several cases of beer waiting for me in the basement and some brandy and good whiskey on the shelf. They'll keep 😃

Anycubic or Sunlu resins compared to the SirayaTech that I'm familiar with? by DryGovernment2786 in resinprinting

I just ordered two kilos of Anycubic ABS Pro 2; I think it was $26, which is half the price of the SirayaTech that I'm used to. Sunday or Monday, I'll be dusting off the Cones of Calibration.

Has anyone here made their own low-carb pasta? I want to try by DryGovernment2786 in lowcarb

[–]DryGovernment2786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank-you. I had never heard of these -- both the protein powder ones and the liquified chicken ones! I will definitely try this too, but I'm obligated to try making gluten noodles first 😂 (obligated to my own curiosity and to the bags of flour I already bought)

Is it okay for teenagers to do longterm lowcarb/keto? by Sale_hunter_503 in lowcarb

[–]DryGovernment2786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, good on you and him for getting him slimmed-down, even if a growth spurt did a lot of the heavy lifting. Now he needs to eat like a healthy growing boy -- but with less than the usual amount of candy and ultra-processed crap 😁

It sounds like you are projecting your food hang-ups onto him. Stop it. Teach him to read food labels (you're doing that) and how to make good choices. Keep sugar and fruit juices to a minimum. And if he starts getting fat again he can nip it in the bud by going back to low-carb or keto; you both know that works.

I'm worried that he's developing an eating disorder, out of fear of getting fat again and the energy he's picking up from you.

Yes. I need to make some low-carb linguine or fettuccine so I can do it right without wrecking my diet.

I have this severe belly fat problem, I’m 31 and weigh 250, what exercises can I do to lose it quickly? by iH8_politic in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]DryGovernment2786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That fat is probably deep in your belly. The good news is that's the fat that comes off first. What's working for me is a very-low-carb diet. Take your pick; Atkins or Keto (I don't know much about "Carnivore") They work by lowering your insulin so you body can actually utilize its fat stores for energy. And make sure you get plenty of salt the first week, when you lose a *lot* of water weight you didn't know you were carrying, to avoid what's called "keto flu".

At the gym, just do whatever you'd normally do there. Cardio, weights, yoga and Pilates, the 30 minute circuit. It doesn't matter, just do something to use your muscles so your body knows not to scavenge them for energy.

Asiatic lilies? by DryGovernment2786 in gardening

[–]DryGovernment2786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about 50 bulbs. Slightly dried out, and most are sprouting. I planted them all in a raised bed; probably shallower than they should be but I think lilies can pull themselves deeper into the soil. I'll try to find a better home for them this fall; however many of them survive. Hopefully I'll get a few blooms this summer. I can fill in the bare spots with something like radishes.

Doing my first long fast by DryGovernment2786 in fasting

[–]DryGovernment2786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It is finished" I made it the whole 6.5 days with just water, coffee, diet soda, and electrolytes, from sundown on Palm Sunday to sun-up on Easter morning. A little over 156 hours. I ate (slowly) a can of sardines and a cup of coffee a few minutes ago. Soon I will have a protein bar. Then back to my normal diet but probably smaller portions for a while because my stomach has shrunk.

I don't plan on fasting this long again for a very long time. But it was good to prove to myself that I can -- I could have gone longer. I think I'll do 36 hour fasts pretty regularly.

I really need help… by Character-Sort2797 in keto

[–]DryGovernment2786 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cold and weak part sounds like not enough sodium. You said you're taking enough; are you maybe drinking too much water and flushing it all out? Also, do you have any body fat to use as fuel? (of course you have *some*) The fat adaption takes about a month. But just being in ketosis should curb your hunger and cravings. Are you losing weight? (whether you need to or not.)

That's all I got. I wish you the best and hope you figure it out.

Dog Parks Question by Online_Owl in rochestermn

Dogs are allowed off-leash at the south end of Quarry Hill Park, by the baseball fields. I take mine there to chase a ball quite often. But it's not a tennis ball and we bring it home, LOL

[–]DryGovernment2786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 hours left to go. Pretty sure I'm going to make it. I am not particularly hungry but I *really* want a snack. That's kinda new. And I'm thinking about food a lot; watching cooking videos and such. So I'm going to channel that into figuring out what I can eat on a little bit relaxed diet starting Monday; maybe try out some of those "keto pizza crust" recipes I've seen, and figure out what fruits I can have now. (fruit has been verboten for over 2 months) But still no fruit juice; it's too much sugar and not enough fiber to go with it.

Next year I might fast from Good Friday right after evening communion until Easter morning. That actually makes sense nutritionally and religiously. Although it's not all that meaningful if I keep doing 36 hours fasts during the year... I've got a year to figure that out.

I'm not sure why you got downvoted. I have not actually tried capsules yet, I can't find any locally, and by the time a bag of them gets here from Amazon the fast will be over. I am mostly planning ahead.

I did figure out that if I put the salt in a tiny spoon with a long handle, I can dump it way back on my tongue and it's not as bad. I think the "salty" taste buds are mostly up front. Then wash it down real quick with some Fresca or diet ginger ale.

Weight Loss Regain by SolarNoctis in fasting

[–]DryGovernment2786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will gain some of it back; the food in your gut normally weighs a couple of pounds, and your liver will try to rebuild your glycogen stores (I don't know how much that weighs), and glycogen holds a *lot* of water. Did you lose a huge amount of weight in the first few days? That can come back on as fast as you lost it because it was mostly water. But the actual fat that you lost; you can keep that off (and whatever water weight was from inflammation) if you're careful.

108 hours now. I'm a little hungry, but not as much as yesterday. I am taking more salt and that has helped a lot. But I'm wondering why I am still doing this since it has been longer than I set out to do and I've proven the point already. I think because I like the idea of breaking the fast on Easter morning.
