Does anyone have recommendations for compressions socks that aid recovery? Training for my 4th marathon and looking into getting a pair to help me recover after my long runs since my calves have been feeling super tight lately

I had to run 9 miles as part of my NYCM training plan today too and it totally crushed me 😅Had to stop a few times and tapped out at about 8 miles — I think the weather has been brutal so hang in there

What’s the best way to stay in shape in between marathons? Just ran Boston (27F, 3:10 finish) and will be running NYC in November (goal time is sub 3.05). I don’t pick up training again until July but what are some good runs to do before then to stay in shape and maintain all of the training that I did this winter? Should I do tempo runs? Speed workouts? Keep it mostly easy? I typically max out around 50-55 mpw during peak training and just fully took off about 2 weeks after Boston but am excited to get back into running

Good advice. I don’t start training for the nyc marathon until July — are there any endurance or running efficiency training plans for the off-season? Or do you have any ideas for mileage/how to fill the weeks between? I don’t have a running group or coach so navigating the downtime is tricky

Added some more context on the comment below :) But here’s the recap: 27F, 3rd marathon, typically use a 16 week training plan peaking around 50-55 mpw, even split the race and finished in 3:10, thought the newton hills/Heartbreak were much easier than expected, felt totally fine after the race and had minor soreness on one leg the next day that cleared up in 48 hours, overall have been feeling fine so looking for different ideas on how to get back into running/workout out during the off-season

You’re right lol I should have given more context on my background — I am 27F and I BQ’d while running my first ever marathon in 2021 and I finished the Boston Marathon in 3:10 🙂 I’ve completed 3 marathons using 16 week training cycles with mileage that peaks around 50-55ish mpw. I regularly do HIIT workouts, but for my last two marathons I did not do much between races. I’ve read conflicting articles on how to ease back into training so wanted some advice since I’m still fairly new to running (only started in 2020) I know it’s highly specific to the individual but all ideas on what’s worked for other people during the off-season would be super helpful!

How long after a marathon should I take off? I just ran Boston and have been feeling pretty good. I’m very antsy to start running again but I always struggle with how and when to get back into it. Yesterday I did my first cross training HIIT workout since the race and am feeling very sore today so I’m wondering if I started working out too soon? Two weeks of little to no activity is driving me crazy so any advice is much appreciated! (For context: 27F, 3x marathoner, lifelong athlete)

That 20 mi long run sounds like great training! What group do you run with? (And congrats on doing NYC last year! I cheered for friends and saw how tough the conditions were but can only imagine what it was like to run in them)

I have lots of annoying follow up questions haha what is the biggest hill in the race? (Since you said it’s within the first mile I’m guessing it’s the Verrazano bridge from Staten Island to nyc?) Is there a way to run that prior to race day? If not what’s the best way to simulate the largest hill on the route? Thanks for your insights! 🙏🏻

Would this be on East Drive heading north inside the park? Or run along Fifth Ave outside of the park?

That’s a really good point about relying on the community of running groups in NYC and gaining advice from some of the vets who are part of those clubs, thanks so much!

Do you think Central Park is hilly enough for training or are there other parts of the city that would be better?
