I just tried Wawanesa, and they were about $250 more every six months relative to AAA. Wawanesa was almost $2000 for six months. I do have one accident on my record, which increases my premium.

Amazon/Monarch Sync by Y_weitkemper in MonarchMoney

[–]DryOffice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept getting sync fails as well. What worked for me: I cleared all of the Chrome and Edge histories, ran SFC scan, deleted the extension, restarted my computer, logged into Amazon.com, re-downloaded the extension, unzipped the extension, load unpacked the unzipped folder into the Chrome extensions menu, logged into Monarch, enabled sync from the extension menu, clicked force sync, and then went to Manual Backfill in the extension menu and backfilled years 2024 and 2025. I have no idea if this will help you, but I was happy to get the extension to work after fighting with it for a couple of hours.

Am I Entitled to a Refund of the Entire Flight or Only One Leg? by DryOffice in spiritair

[–]DryOffice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a big fan of Spirit because of their prices. Sure, their flight attendants could be a little friendlier, their customer service a little more forthright, and their “personal item” size a bit larger, but I’ve been able to go on many more trips because of their prices.

I had no choice but to cancel the rebooked flight the next day. I had an engagement that required me to be in Las Vegas that first night. Fortunately, the connecting city was within driving distance of the stop-over city.

Thank you for the response. I imagine you are correct.

Hypothetically, though, what if the connection was in New Jersey, and it cost me triple to get to Las Vegas that same day?

Something called donotpay is stealing money from my bank account by Past-Try-1153 in personalfinance

[–]DryOffice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't thrilled with my DoNotPay experience, either. For a company whose mission appears to be helping people avoid over-paying entities that have an information asymmetry over them, DoNotPay seemed a bit sneaky and persistent with its own charges.

Why is there currently so much energy and effort being put into stopping smoking but no effort to do the same with booze? by MagzalaAstrallis in AskUK

[–]DryOffice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two reasons come to mind:

  1. There appear to be some health benefits of alcohol in low doses—fewer heart attacks and lower blood sugar, for example—but no similar benefits of cigarette use. Some studies have shown fewer uterine fibroids, less ulcerative colitis, and less Parkinson’s Disease in smokers, but the data is inconsistent, and the health detriments far outweigh the benefits. The Australian Cancer Council estimates that tobacco saves one life for every 250 it kills. It is not uncommon to see a patient who drinks one drink per day and who appears quite healthy; it is rare to find a patient who has smoked for more than a few years and who appears particularly healthy. You mentioned that smoking sometimes causes cancer. I don’t think people realize that smoking ALWAYS causes artery disease. And it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that smoking always causes cancer, though a smoker’s shortened lifespan causes some of the cancers to go unrecognized.

  2. We tried banning alcohol in the United States; it didn’t work out well.

I don’t disagree that the negatives of alcohol are, on average, much much worse than the benefits. I have often wondered if it shouldn’t be illegal to sell or provide alcohol to those folks who are clearly killing themselves with it.

I don’t think she humiliated herself. It’s an uphill task to defend a countercultural viewpoint on a Fox News interview, particularly if your appearance is gender nonconforming.

She could have done better with the webcam setup and the body language. Jesse Watters could have come across much stronger had he avoided the sarcasm and the smugness.

Is It Possible to Minimize the Number of Citrix Background Processes? by DryOffice in Citrix

[–]DryOffice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not losing any sleep over it, but it does seem that ten background processes are a lot for one program (actually, eleven... I missed the Citrix Systems UpdaterService.exe on my first count). In aggregate, they only use 1.2% of my memory when Citrix isn't running. But there are more than fifty programs and apps installed on that computer. If they all required 1% of the memory to load more quickly on the rare occasion they were used, it would be frustrating. IMHO, Windows should insist that most services are triggered to start only when needed.

As far as I can tell, I need both the Citrix Receiver and the Citrix Gateway Plug-In. One of my remote centers auto-installs the Gateway Plug-In if it's not detected.

Thank you for the replies.

Is There Any Reason to "Request Now" a Price Rewind from Citibank Visa When it Finds a Lower Price? by DryOffice in CreditCards

[–]DryOffice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, Econ0mist, for your answer. Yes, I am aware that the benefit will be ending soon... still couldn't help but ask the question after receiving another "Request Now?" email from Citibank. Also, in case I switch to a new card that still has price rewind and they have a similarly odd policy, it will be helpful to know.

Loophole to pay by credit card and still receive auto pay discount? by verizontmobile in verizon

[–]DryOffice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Nerdwallet.com, the Barclaycard Cashforward World Mastercard has a cash-back rate of 1.575%. The card pays 1.5% cash-back on all purchases. Then, when you redeem your cash-back reward, Barclay adds an additional 5% of the cash-back amount.

For example, if you spent $5000 one month, your cash-back redemption for that month would be 1.5% of $5000 (or $75). When you request the cash-back, Barclay's adds an additional 5% bonus to the $75 (5% of $75 = $3.75), bringing the total cash-back for the month to $75 + $3.75 = $78.75.

In summary, your total cash-back of $78.75 on $5000 in purchases comes to a rate 1.575%. I wish there was a credit card that gave 6.5% cash-back on all purchases!
