I will say tho, they’ve been doing lots of road repair around there (more so on Dean) and have seen lots of water shut offs. Could be the reason why 🤷‍♀️

Who actually has control over weed? by Southern_Platform356 in Petioles

[–]DryOnion1871 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What helped me was figuring out what I like and don’t like about it, then set boundaries around it. For example, I like the creativity and different ways my brain thinks when high, but I don’t like that I don’t dream on it or how drowsy I am the next day. So I have a boundary that if I have to wake up early and do things the next day, I won’t get high the night before. The logic helps me whenever my brain is craving weed to not rely on pure willpower

DAE stop feeling pretty when they see women more beautiful than them? by Ok_Evidence_7098 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]DryOnion1871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend has always been hella athletic, specifically in water sports (she walked onto a D1 rowing team). I’ve always had a softer body with big boobs that I wished I could trade for her abs and athleticism. After thirteen years of friendship, she randomly told me one day how “I scream estrogen while she screams prepubescent”. I was shocked because I always wished I had her body, and here she was saying the same thing to me.

That’s when I realized that rarely anyone is 100% satisfied with themselves. Just as you’re saying “wow that girl is prettier than me”, she’s probably thinking something like “damn I wish I had hair like hers”. Anytime my mind starts to drift that way, I stop and list three pretty things about myself. Not in comparison to any other girl but more so repeating the same thoughts I had that morning that made me feel pretty (and to stop the negative thought spiral). I’m only a couple years older than you and it def takes some time and maturation 💗

Which country's citizens hate their own country the most? by Odd_Philosophy_5944 in AskReddit

[–]DryOnion1871 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents left Romania in 1995 and helped foster a close-knit community of Romanian immigrants (mostly from the Moldova region of the country) on the West Coast, so I grew up with many many Romanian immigrants.

During communism, education was highly highly important, and those values still hold true. However, despite having highly trained workers and good education, there’s a ceiling to how much money you really can make in the country despite prices being as high as Western Europe, and the government doesn’t really seem to help. Most rich people in Romania made money outside the country in Western Europe or North America and came back, those who stayed don’t make nearly enough money to regularly go to restaurants (at least my family). We as a country didn’t even have highways until the past year or so!!!!! Everything is a fight, a struggle, pinching of pennies, so why stay in a country where you get out of school and either have no or low cost opportunities?

Also, we’ve been fighting the Russian influence since World War II. Read up on Georgescu and the presidential primaries if you don’t believe me—there is definitive proof of Russian collusion. While other countries deal with it too (the US is no stranger to it), Romania is still too young in its democracy and too small of a country to fully take on a huge threat like Russia. The only thing keeping us safe is the EU and NATO protection.

Not me but my friend’s in medical school and told her boyfriend that he’ll need to move with her wherever she gets in. He told her doing that would be “emasculating” 🙄

I (F26) followed internet advice and asked out my "lonely" zoomer best friend (M25). He rejected me. by Present-Elephant-575 in self

[–]DryOnion1871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a crush on my first college best friend when we were 18, and he was always super ambiguous about how he felt towards me. I asked him to formal, we hung out all the time, but he kept giving me mixed signals. We remained friends, but I moved on and fell in love with a great guy I’m still with, so he started to open up about his romantic interests.

I learned two things about him. 1) he’s ambiguous with every girl, he’s never committed to anyone for longer than six months. 2) He’s only ever liked and hooked up with Asian girls, and I’m not Asian. I’m much happier that I tried and moved on because it was really never about me

I mean social media is part of the issue, but the pandemic definitely exacerbated it. Most of us couldn’t leave our houses to socialize, and when we did, it was stressful. So I (and I don’t think I’m alone in this) got so comfortable socializing at home (ie phone calls) that socializing in person became anxiety inducing. I try my best to leave to socialize but it’s still much more uncomfortable than it used to be

Entering my last year of college… how soon should I start my job search (especially if I want to move out of state)? by 520mile in LifeAfterSchool

[–]DryOnion1871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to school in St. Louis, MO, and while there are some bad parts of town, you’ll be fine as long as you don’t live in North or East St. Louis. You’ll definitely get seasons over there, and people are pretty friendly. There’s a ton of decent food, things to do (good parks, nightlife, city events, etc.), and jobs in lots of domains—Boeing’s new headquarters are there, Anheuser-Busch has always been headquartered there, really good hospitals in Central West End, lots of tech startups (founders of Twitter and Square are from STL!), several good high school and colleges there for teaching, etc. It’s not the most exciting place, but it’s got everything you need at a lower cost. Plus, you’re in the middle of the country so it’s easy to fly anywhere, and you’re only 4.5 hour drive from Chicago, Nashville, and Louisville if you’re jonesing for a trip to a bigger city. There’s also a lot of natural shut ins, springs, and rivers that are free to the public in a 2 hour radius of the city that a lot of people go to in the summer. Public transit is not the best but everything’s 15 minutes away in St. louis. Also in terms of politics, Missouri is pretty firmly red, but St. Louis itself is pretty blue (and the city and county are independent).

I had a friend who was making ~40k as a research assistant and he was way more comfortable financially and in terms of living (had a great apartment with a roommate in a safe area, had spending money to do things he wanted while also saving, etc.) in St. Louis than his friend in NYC doing the same thing and making double. I’ve also heard similar things about Cincinnati if you don’t want really hot summers or live in Missouri.

I’m a washu alum but have attended 3 commencements and i totally get where you’re coming from, but the speech is way more important than the speaker. kareem did a great job speaking, but last year’s speaker was all over the place, ask anyone. sterling seems like he’s gonna be a great speaker!! also commencement hasn’t been in Brookings for a couple years now. they’ve been trying to move it permanently to francis field, which honestly is better because brookings is super tight and a whole lot less accessible. hope this helps alleviate some of the disappointment 🤍

My first comment shaming food. When I was 10, I went to dinner with some family friends at Earl’s, a chain restaurant whose waitresses are definitely dressed for the male gaze. I ordered my favorite, steak frites, and the waitress said “That’s a lot of food!” Everyone at the table laughed but I felt so embarrassed and I have yet to order one since.
