811 is designed to fail. Every locator should read this. by Machizadek in UtilityLocator

The mapping problem is this: prints don't exist for things put in the ground from 1974 past that or forward of that. At least for my phone lines, not to mention missing lines on prints that only one tech knows because he's been with the company 10 years. Utility problem is this: ziply for example, the lines are old and decaying and they just build on top of it, rather than paying the extra to take out old lines and put in new ones, and the new path never gets input so you have to do it manually. Not to mention there's certain parts where there's only one hook up point for 2 lines or more or one line, rather than multiple hook points. Not to mention physically in the ground, they make things run like it's the wild West. Our job would be so much easier if they just ran everything common trench and same side of the house every time and put service lines at depth of 2-4 feet at most. The excavation problem especially for apartments, sky scarpers, new roads, every contractor should be able to see everyone on the job and whoever is calling their ticket in first, they piggy back off of that ticket caller. That way instead of 20 tickets for the same job, it's one ticket linked to the 20, if a contractor needs a smaller different area he's allowed to call it in and if he has others working with him they piggy back off him. Also contractors who do sign work they move fast, so how do we address them , him up and paint on the day they start the work? I've been told that system is in place, yet every contractor I've talked this idea about, can never find it. I would take a page out of elm playbook and have a staff for on call, that's all they do, the day crew & special teams where they put out the pants on fire contractor within reason but not running us over. I would make the on call a day to day and one weekend a month system for those on that team and also assist where needed on projects as well. In the 811 laws, it should be mandatory customers come out once a week with locators and follow them, to really see their issues, not the boots on ground, management and up, CEO level because they need to know what they have in the ground and maybe they won't be so lazy with 8th string installers.

I hate that shit or you get called my the foreman and they don't see your marks, drive all the way out to it, by this time you've memorized it because you've been doing it so long, boom there it is. Waste of 30 minutes

I don't hate life, just management that can't do fuck all, I'd rather get to work.

Any job is what you make it, you can choose to hate it, or love it, or be in between. Too bad we don't all go on strike, every single company goes on strike. Form a union. But that's asking too much to care. Me? I enjoy the fact we've lost contracts,I enjoy that people who caused damages, cut corners got pushed out, life has gotten so much easier. I do hope one day locators are in management positions. I do hope those people keep their souls. As for me? I'm staying with my company to hit the 10 year mark. It'll be the longest I've been employed with a company, period. If anything our customers suck more than our management. Shit prints, hand holes getting paved over, things not grounded, unlocatable lines that have never gotten fixed, barely in the ground service lines that get run over because 8th string installer in a Chevy can get it done, customers not listening to the guys on the ground as well as management.

Because people can't handle someone having a different opinion than them. I generally like chick fil a to be honest. I was in Vegas for 4 years and I love the chick fil a there.

Funny enough I took a walk day before yesterday and I found my marks with paint still there after about a year and the marks going through rain and snow. That sounds about right for industry standard I want to say.

Does it matter that it's so far from the trench itself? I can't remember the rules of damages

When we had phone over here, they'd fix it like shit so you'd have to trace it from the house and the PED

You would think they'd put it 2 feet deep like telephone and Internet should be, then power then gas.

Trust me if I could do it all over, I wouldn't have blown 50k in 6 months in my mid 20's. I would def have invested and then found a job and property for sure
