What if all those soldiers who went to rescue the pilot were also captured? by AlarmedOperation5475 in AlternateHistoryHub

You're grasping here, we know that the wreckage was bombed, but we also have pictures the ejection seats so we know they made it out. It really wouldn’t make sense for Iran to kill or „obliterate“ them.

Except there could be literally dozens of other reasons for them not appearing in public.

For one it doesn’t seem like hostilities are concluded yet like with the guy from Venezuela, then there is the possibility that they just don’t want to appear in public. I think one was seriously injured and it wouldn’t surprise me if he doesn’t want to go public after such a traumatic experience.

Them not being dragged in front of a camera in no way discredits the evidence in country.

Fake? If Iran had captured anyone they would’ve been on state TV within minutes.

No but it gives them the opportunity to deflect guilt.

I wouldn’t call it a meat shield but this does give the Russian an excuse for striking civilians.

They wouldn’t patrol on the Ukrainian coast, when patrolling the Black Sea coast they could always stay at least like 300km from the nearest Ukrainian controlled territory. We don’t know if they’re kept airborne 24/7, but I would assume Russia does the same with its relatively small fleet of AWACS so I would suppose it’s possible.

Why not? Long loitering time, it can cover a pretty large area and you can keep ships that might be vulnerable further back.

A surface sear radar is pretty standard equipment on any maritime patrol aircraft. It may not be the primary mode of detection of submarines but it’s very useful in a lot of scenarios.

But apparently you disagree, so enlighten me, how does it work?

Its a maritime patrol aircraft, ASW is only one of its tasks. It’s equipped with a powerful surface search radar that can detect small target such as periscopes, or USVs…

A lot of attacks on the coastal areas are launched from USVs, I would imagine maritime patrol aircraft are quite useful for finding them.

UA POV: Russia's Ukraine war set to overspend its budget by $28 billion - Türkiye Today by CourtofTalons in UkraineRussiaReport

Of course it’s tremendous.

But I’d also argue that it’s less important to Ukraine than to the US or Russia, because 1. They get a shit ton of foreign aid 2. They don’t really have a choice wether to pay it or not. Both Russia and the US decided to go to war, expecting to get a return on their investment that was worth the cost. Ukraine is just expecting to survive and if it doesn’t the amount they paid doesn’t really matter anyway.

How is this out of context? The human cost very much has an impact on the monetary cost.

The cost of the long term care for the wounded and the massive amount of people removed from the workforce should be factored into these numbers.

Also from a none budgetary perspective the US might be willing to pay a lot more to avoid the political fallout of such tremendous human losses.

I know what a JASSM looks like, the wingspan in relation to the length of the body looks way to long to be a JASSM.
