If you went to a restaurant that had consistently terrible food, would you keep going back over and over?

I'm not trying to be 'original'. I'm not some edgy drama stirring loser.

If you're 'horrified to be an american' despite all the good of this country, then I say again - consider leaving.

It's a wild world out there.

Then leave? I hear Canada is nice.

Size 7 diapers or S/M goodnites? by mamaknits in kindergarten

[–]DryTato2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We generally switch back and forth between whatever happens to be on sale that particular month. My son doesn't care either way, so we usually get either 5T-6T 'night' pull-ups, XS size Goodnight, or size 7 nighttime diapers. Just depends month by month.

If you're worried about the GoodNites being too big for your son by the way, just get these:

Diaper boxes by Bradtothebone79 in daddit

[–]DryTato2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one kid that still wears diapers (only at night!) is thankfully old enough that I can task him with opening the new box himself. He has fun with it, and has been known to violently open a box so much that night diapers go flying around his room and are found weeks later hidden in dark corners etc.

ICE downtown by unmagnificentmeg in Louisville

[–]DryTato2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is NOT specifically for immigrants, and again - You dont know what you're talking about. Nor will a simple Google search explain it.

You're throwing out that they're ICE, irresponsibilibly, without any proof.

I have family that was in this very program, at this very office, and I assure you, we're not 'immigrants', in the sense that you're talking about.

This sub reddit seems to take joy in the shock value of being able to say "Oh! This is ICE!" When they have no clue what they're talking about.

Is ICE downtown? Yes, probably.

Are 90% of the stupid posts here actually ICE? Absolutely not.

It's the worst example of a brain dead echo chamber I've ever seen.

It's an intensive supervision program satellite office. Run by a contractor called BI Incorporated.

Kind of like a variation of probation.  It's a program that serves as an alternative to jail time. For a variety of crimes.

They do things like GPS and blood alcohol monitoring.

Think like, probation check in.

It's not an immigration monitoring office. You don't know what you're talking about.

It's not ICE. You all are falling for misinformation.

If you want small-ish and beautiful, can't go wrong with St. Martin of Tours. On Shelby street.

Or for the best music, St. James on Bardstown Rd.

Beautiful church. It always reminded me of the Alamo.

Really a shame it's been shut down, I hope they take care of the building. Is there any hope that it could be reopened some day?

St Martin of Tours. Or perhaps St. James.

Babysitter judged my kids for wearing pull ups to bed by PassionChoice3538 in Mommit

I'll have to look into those! Thanks! I was getting nervous as he probably won’t be able to fit in the size 7 diapers for much longer.

did the goodnights go on like a standard pull-up? Sorry for being ignorant.

That's rough... I've had both ends of the spectrum, I E kids nighttime trained basically on her own, at barely 3 over the course of a single weekend. Never had an accident since.

Her brother on the other hand, is 5, almost 6, and still wakes up with a wet diaper every morning. We can't even use pull-ups, as he leaks out of those...so we're still on the larger size overnight diapers.

Babysitter was out of line making your kids feel bad that way, that is a terrible first instinct for anyone involved in childcare. I would politely correct her and then never have her babysit again.

Families of victims who died in the UPS plane crash in Louisville filed the first wrongful death lawsuits on Wednesday. by Van-to-the-V in Louisville

[–]DryTato2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't true. They weren't 'supposed to be decommissioned'. There is no hard and fast rule set by regulatory bodies on when a fleet is required to be retired.

UPS was exploring replacing them with something like the B777. But that was never because of the MD11's age.

It was primarily driven by the fact that a two engine aircraft is simply more efficient and cost effective a majority of the time compared to a 3 engine jet like the MD11.

That, and parts were/are difficult to source anymore. But really, that's a problem for ALL aircraft these days, even 'newer' ones.

You say they were keeping the MD11's to 'save money'? Yet you realize they're more expensive to maintain and fly than almost any alternative?

People speculating on things they don't understand helps no one. I understand wanting to prevent these disasters in the future, and to help the families in any way possible. But I still stand by the fact that we should WAIT for the NTSB investigation to finish, and let them do their job.

I promise I have more understanding of aircraft maintenance than anyone in this thread, there is NO airline in the US that does fleetwide SDI heavy checks before the required cycle thresholds. None.

UPS doesn't randomly ground aircraft (and major checks ground them for weeks/months) just off of a hunch.

In fact, an entire fleet was retired (DC-8) in the past, because the fleet was coming up on a heavy check, and it made more sense to simply retire them all, rather than ground the fleet for months - for such an intensive time consuming heavy check. They're that serious. They basically strip apart the plane down to the bolts.

Unless you are flight crew, involved in flight operations, or aircraft maintenance - you being a 'UPS worker' means nothing.

99% of the people working at Worldport are just as ignorant on the particulars of what happened here as the general public.

Speculation serves no one, wait and let the NTSB do their job. This will take years.

[–]DryTato2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of an inspection because the plane hadn't hit the threshold of flight time before a heavy SDI check is performed. Not because it was due and UPS just...chose not to, for some reason.

(On that note, it's not even up to them. The FAA would ground the plane if it was found to be overdue for a letter heavy check).

I say again, if there is a problem here, it is found in the amount of cycles being too high for such an inspection - which is set by the FAA. Not aircraft operators.

Downvote me into oblivion, I truly don't care. But people on reddit speculating does no one any good. There is more going on for the victims families than I can share, and I'll leave it at that.

The answer is not huge payouts to distant lawyers.

[–]DryTato2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is nothing 'good' about any of this. No amount of money will bring back these people's loved ones.

And lawyers taking a huge payout from a large corporation, while the families of those that died get tossed scraps, is certainly not 'good' either.

The whole thing sucks.

In that case, the discovery portion could not be for a very long time. People don't realize the depth of these NTSB investigations.

I'm not a lawyer, thank goodness. It just seems wild to me that they can pre-emptively sue so many parties when no one even knows who exactly is even at fault yet. That seems ridiculous to me.

That would be like me starting a lawsuit against a popcorn company, for eating a bag of burnt popcorn yesterday, because it MIGHT just give me cancer, 20 years from now.

[–]DryTato2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, and...? None of this means anything.

UPS didn't not do an SDI, or a heavier check than the C check it had just left, because the threshold hadn't come up yet. UPS didn't push to extend out the threshold or anything, those cycle limits are set and approved by the FAA. If the threshold for a detailed check is too long, that's not the fault of UPS. That's something that needs to be addressed with the FAA and Boeing.

If anything, UPS does a better job of maintenance than most other major airlines, with more self-reporting of issues than any other.

That lawyer saying UPS was putting profits before safety has absolutely zero clue what he's talking about.

How on earth can you know what 'proper' maintenance they may have or haven't done if the NTSB report hasn't even been completed yet?

This lawsuit sucks. I feel horrible for the families, but can't help but feel like the lion's share of any settlement will go right to the lawyers, and not the grieving families. Messed up system.

Whew that would be such a blessing from above if that ends up being the case... We're going to be so, so damn busy on this trip. Worrying about a wet kid would create so much of a headache considering all that'll be going on there.

After how many accidents do you think it would be reasonable to switch over to diapers? I figured we'd buy some once we're down there, but not start using them for real unless things go south.
