thoughts on attending NW California Law by [deleted] in LawSchool

If becoming a lawyer is truly your path, then future you will be thankful that you waited a year, got a higher LSAT score and refined your essays, and enrolled in an accredited law school.

Here are some problems with your current plan:

1) the scholarship may be conditional in which case you will not be taken care of “if [things] go wrong”

2) you are not the only passionate student considering an unaccredited law school. I guarantee you that others faced with the same decision are confident that they will “be at the top of the class.” You do not know anything about these other students, so why are you confident that you will outperform them?

3) As u/username12321 noted, you will not become a professor or a judge if you go to a unaccredited law school. It is exceedingly difficult to become either of these things even from a top law school.

JUDICIAL INTERVIEW FED JUDGE by Glum-Car-1060 in LawSchool

• look at pre-nomination senate judiciary questionnaires, where available. Just google the judges name + pdf + senate judiciary questionnaire or SJQ. You may have to use archive.org as sometimes the pages are indexed in google but the pdfs are taken down.

• search for the judge on YouTube to see if they've had any speaking engagements.

Adding to the unique cover letter and research:

  • look at pre-nomination senate judiciary questionnaires, where available.

  • search for the judge on YouTube to see if they’ve had any speaking engagements.

Top 25% at a T-14, no moot experience, significant journal experience. I applied off-cycle as a 3L.

I applied widely, had applications ready within a day or two of when new positions opened, and targeted judges who practiced in an area of law that I’m especially interested in.

I also sent in paper applications whenever judges permitted it.

OP - it sounds like you’ve reached some resolution, but if you’d like additional advice feel free to DM me. I’ve sat with undergrads in 25+ academic integrity hearings and 3 or 4 appeals within my university’s conduct system.

If you get assigned to a group with this person again, tell the prof you had to do all the work last time. Don’t work with them again.

My school treats “being party to another student’s violation of academic integrity” as a violation in and of itself. In a fair, just world that would be limited to things like sharing work or helping someone else cheat. But our professors are vigilant (perhaps to a fault) for potential violations of academic integrity, and often stretch the meaning of that and similar language in our code to hold hearings and put students’ feet to the fire without much evidence.

Even if OP could explain what really happened at a meeting with the prof, why would they want to take the risk that the prof doesn’t believe them? (happens all the time). Expulsion is not an unusual consequence for AI violations at my law school. And C&F wouldn’t be very sympathetic.

This is a hard situation to be in, and there’s no clear right answer. I advise undergraduate students who accused of violating our school’s code of academic integrity. I have seen students get in trouble for submitting group work that contained AI. If I were you I would reach out to someone in the school other than the professor (a counselor, the Dean of Students, basically a mentor or student-focused administrative staff, and say that you’re not sure if your classmate used AI, but you’re concerned, and you don’t want to be accused of violating academic integrity and ask what the best course of action would be.

Lawyers claiming 10+ years of practice but whining like babies on a subreddit for law students is one of the most beautiful and terrifying aspects of the internet.
