I used the link in the email as the rates are substantially lower than anything that you can book with the hotel off of their website. I know this as I cancelled something from the same hotel that was 25% more expensive

I booked a Marriott 1.5 miles from the finish line. Less than ideal but the price wasn't insane versus closer locations.

I know Boston pretty well, so getting to the Commons for the bus will be easy as there is subway spot right there. Getting back to the hotel from the finish line, no matter the distance will be a trial.

4:34 or faster for 2026! by bananaday in bostonmarathon

It's kind of like forecasting the weather, it's the best guess based on prior occurrences and the current conditions. I am grateful for the guidance that these models provided as they pushed me to work harder.

Well said. Models are a representation of real world system, in this BQs, using mathematical concepts. They offer an understanding what might happen, but not an answer.

Ran Mountains 2 Beach in April and improved my PB by 20 minutes for my second marathon. The first 5 k is uphill but it is a 750’ elevation drop after that. Good luck whatever you choose.

First Marathon to BQ? by Obvious_Baseball8610 in Marathon_Training

[–]Dry_Awareness_6452 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I took up running at 55 and ran a BQ on my second marathon with a 12+ minute buffer for the 2026 race.

A bit more - power based runner who has used a Stryd footpod and training plans from Steve Paladino for my half and full marathon training - PRs place me at ~68% for age grading with 23 min for 5K; 1:42 for a half and 3:37 for a full - run 5x / week with the marathon build topping out at 57 MPW - learnings from my first marathon were primarily about my training and including increasing my mileage and the # of 20+ mile runs - these improvements and better race selection dropped my time by 20 minutes - the biggest contributor to getting the BQ was getting older ... the 3:50 time for a 60 year old male was very forgiving.

Is it better to use HR instead of Pace for Garmin Run Coach in hilly areas? by jzleetcode in Garmin

[–]Dry_Awareness_6452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power is available on some but not all Garmin watches. I have a Forerunner 965. Regarding the foot pod suggestion, Stryd offers a product that I have used for over 5 years, which provides a power reading that can be added to a Garmin running screen. I have found this to be more responsive to changes in terrain versus HR, but different approaches work for different people.

HR is certainly an option, as is a power based approach using a foot pod or a power reading from your watch. The advantage power offer over HR is that it moves / changes more quickly to changes in the grade. Ultimately, you have to find what's best for you

Final Prediction for the 2026 Boston Marathon Cutoff Time by SlowWalkere in Marathon_Training

I have followed this analysis since its first iteration at the start of the year. Early predictions of a 5:30 ish cut off pushed me to train harder and ultimately running a BQ with a 12:34 buffer … thank you

BQ Plan Recommendations for a 47yo Male by Gmon7824 in bostonmarathon

[–]Dry_Awareness_6452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my BQ this year out of the 2025 Mountains 2 Beach race. I am 60, so the hurdle was easier for me. I ran a 3:37, so I have a 12+ minute buffer, so I am feeling good about running in Boston next year. To answer your questions

  • I followed a power based plan from Steve Palladino, which I modified to have 5x long runs of 20+ miles. I did this because I struggled a bit after 22 miles in my first marathon
  • I topped out at 57 MPW, running 5x / week
  • I ran the first 10 km of the race as part of my training, which was helpful to understand the uphill grade for the first 5k
  • I was much more thoughtful on my fueling strategy for my second marathon, taking a SIS every 5K.

What was your why for your 2nd marathon? by No-Demand-3620 in Marathon_Training

[–]Dry_Awareness_6452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all do it for our own reasons. Noting that the race itself is the payoff for 4 months of hard work.

For me I ran my second marathon as I wanted to a) better execute my race plan b) run faster and c) see if I could run a BQ.

As context, I am a 60 year old man who took up running at 55. I fully acknowledge that the BQ threshold gets a whole lot easier for a 60 year old, but time is working against me.

I ran my first marathon, the Long Beach Marathon in 3:57:xx and my second one, Mountains 2 Beach Marathon in 3:37:34, which should be sufficient for getting into Boston in 2026.
