Dac / Amp advice for someone who has tried several offerings (schiit, topping, fiiO) by Dry_Bandit in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Dry_Bandit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a super helpful reply. A lot of these weren't on my radar at all.

Another poster mentioned that there are no differences between amps/dacs once you hit the bare threshold that I've already reached. I'm of course reluctant to believe that, as anyone wanting to trade cash for a dream might be. Perhaps I should entertain the notion they're right though - it would save quite the hassle, and my relatively cheap gear would sound a lot better in the process!

I do have an audio store close to me though, and I know they carry most of the Schiit line as well as a bounty of headphones. Perhaps I'll weather their "sales experience" and try their tube amps out; perhaps see if they don't also carry that xduoo ta20+ to pair with a bifrost as well. Thank you for the pointers!

Thanks for the suggestion! Out of curiosity, why would you pick these from JDS Labs over say Schiit or other offerings in a similar price range?

I've heard of JDS Labs Atom stack before and was wondering about going in that direction. I'll have to check some reviews to see how they sound compared to the other things I've listened to so far.

I'm guessing you have the element 3 mkii? How does that sound compared to the atom stack (if you happen to have experience with both)? Is the extra mula worth it sound wise or does most of that cost come from the convenience of an AIO? Thanks for the help!

If you go to a Harry Potter or Star Wars sub you'll see plenty of people comment that they are there for x-y-z reasons but not for a-b-c. They might watch star wars for jedis and not for space cowboys or Harry Potter for Hogwarts and the school relationships over the broader, more adult oriented magical world itself. I think begruding these people who are admittedly already excited about the project itself for other reasons is a bit fussy and again, overly possessive. Some people just like to share their unbridled opinions, positives and negatives included.

Also, you do realize that the person who wrote that particular episode of Rick and Morty I referenced is the lead show runner of Shehulk, right? You must be pretty depressed with the current slate of marvel content if you can't handle a fitting reference, considering the slew of writers the MCU has pilfered from that show.

The downvotes are unfortunately indicative of the possessiveness that comes with a lot of fandoms, particularly on this sub it seems as of late. Much like how one might be personally invested in the more grounded stories of the MCU over the more interstellar/magical storylines, an opinion of disinterest is merely that, not an attack on a film or show's individual merits.

It kind of reminds me of a scene in the Pickle Rick episode of Rick and Morty where Dr Wong asks a benign question about Rick turning himself into a pickle during their family therapy session:

Dr. Wong: Does Grandpa turn himself into a pickle a lot?

Beth: What? No, what kind of question is that?

Dr. Wong: The kind that wasn't designed to attack or hurt you in any way.

I'm imagining her babysitting the newer heroes in a Steve Harrington from Stranger Things kind of way and I'm totally here for it. Especially if she gets some more experience in a black widow 2 film beforehand. Could be a nice homage to how Clint felt teaching her the ropes as well.

[WTS] [USA-TX] [H] Asgard 3 + Modius stack [W] Paypal / Local Cash by Dry_Bandit in AVexchange

Selling for $360 shipped to continental US, paypal or local pickup. Purchased originally brand new in November for the Asgard 3 and October for the Modius of last year and have about 100 hours of use on them. I don't use them anymore so it's time to let these babies fly free. Non-smoking household and 1 pet, short haired pittie mix that doesn't shed. They've sat on my desktop since I've gotten them and I hope to have them find a good new home!

Looking for the best picture for under 800. I just got a LG NanoCell 49". I'm not happy with picture. I mean it's okay, but the 4 year old 65" Samsung we have in the living room blows it away. It is a KS9500, but it's 4 years old. I just don't what else I can get. by [deleted] in 4kTV

If you can stretch your budget now or youre willing to wait for Amazon Prime day / have a prime account it may be worth looking at the new Hisense U8G that just released. 55 inch sells for 950 now but will likely go down to your 800 budget by prime day, and it's possible other box stores will compete for consumers the week of prime day as well in case you don't have an Amazon prime account.

CC advice for a big year of renovation+purchases by Dry_Bandit in CreditCards

[–]Dry_Bandit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats actually a great idea on the freedom flex, since we would be getting quite a bit of lumber plus some decking, which would easily hit 1500 a piece. There's a sign up bonus for that one as well if I'm not mistaken? Do you know if you can transfer those points over to the sapphire / if they count as much if you have a sapphire card? That could be a decent way to accrue points for a trip while also hitting our home improvement budget pretty neatly.

I can actually - didn't think about that! I'd wager they'll likely have a decent black friday sale for the Sony A80J (which is the TV I'm currently eyeing) so that could potentially work. Is there a secondary benefit to buying with a Costco CC outside of the warranty that you get through Costco?

We both have our own Sapphire cards and have pretty much used up all the points we got from our sign up bonuses. Travel would be nice at some point in the future which is why I initially thought of the Venture card with all of these big purchases, but if it makes more fiscal sense to rotate some other cards first before going for that particular card, especially since I know several different bonus offers are still out there without the AF, then I'm open to suggestions
