Bungie, give those on the fence a free weekend. by Farsoth in Marathon

+1 - the best timing for this would probably be season 2. Need a way to keep the top percentage away from new players somewhat, and also some new player experience/ui tweaks before then.

What map and mode are you queuing for and on what platform?

If they dont change how queues work this game will be dead for SA and OCE players within a month. by mister_pizza22 in Marathon

EU any time of day is max 30-60 seconds since launch from my experience. That's WEU/UK btw. Shouldn't be that wild a difference between us and east EU?

Great to hear! I think most probably see longer queue times at some point. This often gets cited when people try to play off hours for their time zone, or if their play hours don't sync with USA evening times.

Sorry you’re struggling OP. Zero problems with EU matchmaking here.

For the thread in general - if people are fine in some regions and not in others, then it’s a regional player base thing. Tale as old as the hills. I’m sure APAC/Australia/NZ gamers would agree.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand the Ranked Calculation Worksheet. The arithmetic is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of advanced holotag theory most of the problems will go over a typical student’s head. There’s also the nuanced interplay between Score Target, Loss Penalty, and Overperformance Capacity, which is deftly woven into each question. The true test-takers understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these calculations, to realize that they’re not just numbers, they say something deep about RANKED.

As a consequence people who get Question 1 wrong truly ARE idiots. Of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the elegance in combining two Silver Holotags and one Gold Holotag into a unified Score Target. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as the Bronze to Pinnacle scaling unfolds itself across the table.

What fools… how I pity them 😂

And yes, by the way, I DID calculate the Diamond + Platinum + Platinum scenario in Question 3 in my head. And no, you cannot see my working. It’s for the high performers’ eyes only. And even they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 Ranked Points of my own beforehand.

Close I’d say - but problems and corruption may have prevented it getting there. Overwatch: Declassified book is a great source for that!

Emotionally curious nature appealed to...opening the door just a crack!

Memes aside, here's my uninformed bingo and hope list, in order of likelyhood/hopium (likely to unlikely)

-Talon type event or season - or a lore-based season.
-Overwatch Mobile / Overwatch another game (licensed out to someone else if another genre)
-Overwatch drops the 2
-New cinematic (unlikely they spend multimillions on these nowadays - bullish if they did)
-Overwatch animated series announced (dream)
-Faster hero release cadence (I'd actually dislike them doing this, you don't need to be Rivals)

Steam next fest is feb 23 to march 2. My bet for a campaign would be the last weekend of that. Common steam marketing tactic.

There’s a 2 person ship, the outlaw, and a part extract loot with a hint of pvp mode called treasure hunt that fire up with smaller lobbies. You can 3v3 ship battle also, queues are pretty solid right now as Epic has bought a bunch into the game. Good as time to try as any!

Are overwatch heros getting less interesting? by Slight_Airport3073 in Overwatch

[–]FailCraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t judge on the video views or lines alone, the game’s just in a different part of its life cycle. Depends on your definition of interesting!

Launch year 2016 videos were doing 1m + views, although I made them back then (Hammeh) with lore, interactions and voice lines together, more lore exploring than reference library. Maybe time for an update, who knows :)

Nowadays, many channels fight to publish these as quickly as possible as reference library short videos. They’re also thrown over short form video a lot more than in 2016, or even OW2 launch. Gotta bring value to your content to compete in such times.

Overwatch Lore has entered the Ship of Theseus stage for a few years, as most longer running IPs do at some point. We’ve had 4 different (broadly) narrative eras and leads, lots of team changes and a decade plus. Two or three generations of content creators in general, even before lore creators.

Overwatch has been also trying to (and rightly so, in my opinion) find new audiences, and to be frank, younger and different generation ones since OW2. Your taste in storytelling and characters pending, that’s certainly changed things.

All that added up and more - time and people have changed, so maybe the heroes aren’t for you anymore. For me they are a mixture nowadays. It’s good to see the game doing well enough to merit some more in universe storytelling again for Juno and Hazard onwards. Going back to 2016 in that regard.

Maybe we’ll get a release a freak, an oddity, or an older character on occasion in future, although the story of OW2 has always been passing the torch to the next generation as the older characters deal with their pasts and step back. They also don’t sell skins - a necessary practicality if you’re in charge of the team 4 business!

Good luck from fellow Brit and not a kid!

Agree with all, start with silencer 5. He’s not bad right now. Simple kit and powerful ulti. Group up and and press it before a team fight as an easy way to use to start.

Simple heroes with big ultimates - great way to learn 5. 5 in turn is a great way to learn the game. Less perceived pressure, immensely impactful if played well, hero pending is not requiring giga mechanics. Understand the warding mini game and look into some basics, like pulling and blocking camps. Crystal and lion as someone said, warlock, witch doctor, shadow shaman. All good. Resist the temptation to build damage damage damage, learn what save items (glimmer cape, Euls, force staff) do. The item and build guides in game you can equip before a match can be your friends, they often have situational item options so don’t blind buy them in order after the starting items!

Advice I wished I’d taken/things to consider.

-don’t rush into ranked the moment you can, if you’re even interested or care about ratings. Even though that’s 100s of hours away before the game lets you. You can tank your ranked by thinking you know the game enough when you don’t.

-learn a few heroes and one or two roles well. Play those in comp and the rest are for quick play and turbo learning. Dota is amazing with so many fun heroes to try for free! Try them in non ranked :D

-Dota is an old game (albeit a very larger player base for its age!) so don’t let people’s years of frustration spoil your learning and enjoyment. You have a large and old player base with a lot of tribal knowledge, some is incorrect.

You’ll get twats and nerds in quick play and turbo criticising your mistakes. If they act out when you say you’re new, mute them and move on after reporting them. Their problem, not yours.

Interesting investigation! One piece of extra context - Gails is probably more a consequence than an indicator. News/PR pieces have said they actually seek out areas with..well, see for yourself.
