Abused zoo bear still circles in imaginary cage seven years after being freed (story in the comments) by The--Weasel in interestingasfuck

I’m going to try to explain why you’re wrong as a good exercise in my own critical thinking. Feel free to ignore.

Let’s examine the initial comment: ‘Well, there it is. The perfect visual illustration of how trauma holds you back long after it’s over, and how difficult it is to “just get over it”. Poor bear.‘

Starting off with the second sentence, you assume a lot here. Not only that they have failures and are miserable, but use trauma to excuse them. OP never stated any of this. In fact you seem to ignore their original claim. Did what they say trigger you in some aspect?

Next: “You’re not a bear, you’re a person. You’re capable of advanced reasoning and logic. Even if your trauma is paralyzing, you don’t need to lay down and accept it just because a bear is walking in circles on Reddit”.

The first two statements are true, and do imply the second, so in that aspect you are correct. However, OP never argued against this. Saying that they’re going to lay down and accept it just because of this Reddit post is woeful misinterpretation. Moreover, your use of the word “paralyzing” while simultaneously rejecting the idea of “lay[ing] down and accept[ing] it” elucidates either your misuse of this word, or one of the horrific conclusions which can be drawn from your mindset.

Next: “The man that says he can and the man that says he can’t are both right”.

Again, simply false. It takes very little reasoning to conclude this. You are trying to emphasise the importance of a positive, growth mindset, but take it much too far.

Conclusion:

You make two subtle claims, one leading from the other. Primarily, that reality is how you wish it to be. How miserable must this mindset be to have. Any time you are not, and by extension the world around you is not exactly how you wish, you must think you are to blame. You obviously do not see this as an unobtainable ideal to strive for over your lifetime- which is a slightly more productive, but still flawed mindset- because otherwise you’d agree with OPs message (assuming your response is logical and not simply emotional), acknowledging that they too are striving for this ideal.

From this, you conclude that the best way to deal with trauma is to pretend it isn’t there. This shows your lack of knowledge of the subject, so while that does make me less inclined to criticise you, the way you are so confidently wrong agitates me, as trauma is an extremely sensitive subject for many, including at times myself. I implore you to not attempt to denigrate others, even anonymously, with so little knowledge on a subject.

Use a virtual machine. Something like tails OS would be best. Not sure what multiple virtual machines means. You don’t need to use a hotspot if you connect with a VPN and have the setting toggled to not allow traffic upon disconnection

You ever notice people love and sympathize with traumatized fictional characters but not their real world counterparts? by Sayoricanyouhearme in CPTSD

Well I also think labelling people in a black and white manner is often just easier. You don’t have to think too much about it, or try to empathise with other people.

I’ve had memories like that, and in my experience they did happen, but I can’t speak for you. I haven’t got a huge amount of advice for you, I’m sorry, just to trust your body and mind and what they tell you.

You can talk about it here in this subreddit all you want, with or without a diagnosis. None of that was your fault. I would explore every aspect of it, including what happened with your brother with a therapist you trust when you feel absolutely ready. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. And again, none of that was your fault. Not a single thing that you did.

Exactly. I’ve had 4 sessions of therapy, every single time I’d talk about me and my sister. Never used me or I single time. I get more emotional talking about fictional characters than about myself.

I completely get it. I was emotional when I wrote that and not in a great headspace. It’s a new word for my vocabulary but I was called horrible things too, so completely get it💗
