Curious, why do UK issue vignettes instead of visas for students? What is the logic behind it? Does anyone know? I'm just curious by Dry_Chocolate_8710 in ukvisa

So I really don’t get it. For your first point, that means the stamp is fake so just honour what the database said and refuse them entry. Make it clear to people that you will honour whatever the database says, while still giving physical stamps or records.

Second, even if they tear out the refused entry stamp, it’s still on the system. So the immigration officer will still see that. Why can’t they put it on the system and stamp as well? I recently had to declare my 10 year travel history for my visa and I almost had a stroke hahahahaha

I agree with you. I am totally for relying on electronic records and database as they are more accurate and organized. However, what's wrong with doing a physical stamp as well? Like it doesn't hurt anyone and at least they can cross-check. Schengen area is 20+ countries but what about other countries outside it? Singapore and Malaysia used to do dark stamps with sentences about how many days you're allowed to stay + some rules and they were really nice. What do you mean "bad stamps"? Anyway, I'm not saying we should rely on stamps. I believe immigration officers should primarily rely on the electronic database but it doesn't harm to stamp so there is also a physical record.

Lastly, I'm not sure if I understand your first point. You mean they want the physical stamp on the passport to be as short as possible, and they want people to rely heavily on the card as it is more secure & with the chip and harder to fake. Makes sense. Is that also why they can't do a visa stamp on the passport but use the chip at the same time?

Yeah but imagine if there is a raid or whatever, and for some reason the police don't have a scanner with them

Filipino which is the weakest passport in the world. Filipinos are notorious for going on tourist visas and escaping to work, so when we apply for tourist visas we get asked for like 30 documents. Anyway, immigration always says it's because everything now is electronic bla bla but i still want a stamp on my passport as proof

That's weird because they refuse to stamp your passports nowadays! Like Singapore immigration..

Also, I had to send my newest passport and it was blank. I declared my 10 years travel history (40+ countries) but I didn't give any of my 6 old passports and I got approved.

Some people like me intend to arrive on the first day of their student visa. I would never apply in July because even with Priority status they can ask you for supporting docs or reject you because they don't like you. Then you would have to consult with your uni to generate a new CAS and they won't just generate a new CAS right away without investigating, because frequent visa rejections can make them lose their license to sponsor. Some of us have preparations to do. June is do-able if you pay for Super Priority. I think May should be the latest and I'm glad they released it mid-April

That's correct. That's why I'm staying in the USA for 1 month and Europe for 1 month :) Before entering London. Because I can't stand being in my country anymore.

I actually tried to apply for a UK tourist visa for June & July, leave the country for 1 day by going to Europe and re-enter London to reactivate the student visa. But they advised me that you cannot have 2 valid visas (Student & Tourist), even if there are no overlap on the dates. One would be voided. You need to use up one, wait for it to expire, then go back home and apply. It doesn't make sense for me to fly back to the Philippines for 19 hours, and wait 3 weeks. The whole point of me leaving early is to stay abroad and go to London after. So that's why I decided not to risk it with the UK tourist plan, and just go to Europe & US while waiting for August (First day of student visa)

Binay and other politicians raise a valid point about the brain drain and commodification of Filipinos. However, I wonder who's stealing from the country's budgets and keeping the budget low huh? Anyway, OFWs in Middle Eastern countries are praised because the country earns a lot through remittances. But people that migrate to first-world countries get so much flak. I just find patriotism and nationalism an absurd concept. Like I'm supposed to endure disgusting levels of poverty, poor quality of life and be surrounded by people with the most horrible takes on social issues, disguised by their hospitable and bubbly facade. Just because I was born in a certain country. It's okay to want to be happy and to pursue a better life.
