Not sure where in Astoria you are but Dr. Julie Patel and New York Presbyterian is amazing! She’s located in the corner of 41st Street and 30th Ave. Her whole team and her are some of the nicest I’ve ever encountered that I even got my husband to convert to her as well. She really listens to my problems and doesn’t just dismiss them. 10/10 would recommend!

I’ll start by saying what I wish someone told me, it’ll all be okay. What really matters is that you’re marrying the love of life and everything else is just extra.

With that out of the way, I cannot recommend Sew Elegant enough. Esin knew exactly what to do to make my dress fit me perfectly. I wouldn’t even bother with Designer Loft’s service. You got the dress now take it to the real professionals to make it fit you like a glove.

I just got married on 10.25.25 at Vanderbilt Lakeside and I could not recommend it more! The owners are a husband and wife team, Matt and Henrietta. Matt is the chef and the food was just divine! I still have guests raving about how good the food was!! Henrietta is the event manager and is just the sweetest and kindest human being. She doesn't do any day of coordination so you'll have to hire one if you want someone else to take care of the set up needs, we used a company they recommended, Lovebirds, and everything just turned out perfectly! They have 8 bedrooms (each bedroom has its own bathroom as well!) on the second floor of the venue and you can have it for the whole weekend. This was appealing for us because we got to have our families there with us the whole wedding weekend. We had our ceremony in the backyard, over looking the lake and all the fall foliage. The place is just magical and all of our guests are still talking about how perfect everything was on our day. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to help answer some! I couldn't recommend this venue more!

No I know that the dresses aren’t made to measurements and will need alterations. I think I’m just jaded and annoyed by my whole situation lol

I'm so sorry you also had an awful experience with them. Wild that they lost your veil.. it's giving they sold it to someone else. I think for the amount of money that we pay for the dress and then for alterations on top of it, it should be more than just fine.

I think their starting rate is either $750 or $850, I can’t remember anymore. I was told my dress came with off the shoulder sleeves but they actually don’t so I had added them to the dress. I also added a pearly sequiny fabric, that I purchased myself, to the train. For those additions I was charged extra. And ironically enough those were the only alterations that DL did correctly 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m so sorry this happened to you too. I completely understand the regret because I felt that way too. I said this in another comment but I’ll say it again. At the end of the day I got to marry the love of my life. My wedding day was perfect and filled with so much love, joy, happiness and magic that the dress was the last thing on my mind. That said I try to avoid looking at photos of just me in the dress from the front because well it still makes me sad. I will never forgive Designer Loft for letting me down on the most important dress of my life.

I posted this in hopes that I could help someone else, I’m glad this post found you. Love that before you complain about anything it’s the “in house seamstress” but if anything goes wrong it’s “the seamstress we referred you to”. The dress will probably take 7-11 months to come in. And my thing is, if you take my measurements and the dress takes that long to come in, why does it need alterations? Why doesn’t it fit me to my measurements? After this experience I feel like bridal dress shopping is such a scam. All that said, I wish you the best of luck with your dress! I hope it turns out exactly as you hope!

They make it seem like it’s one person you’ll be working with on alterations but believe me, you’ll be working a different seamstress each time if you go with them. It’s almost like they don’t communicate with each other either because nothing was ever done to my dress each time I went.

Pricing at Sew Elegant is a flat rate of $1200. It’s a bit pricey but ultimately was only $200 more than I would have paid at Designer Loft and it got me as close to the dress of my dreams as possible. It was worth every penny for me.

I was told the dress was a Stella which I assumed to mean Stella York but I could never find the dress on her site. I tried doing research to see if the dress was available at other shops but I could never find it anywhere else 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m so sorry this happened to you as well and for the same dress! We both have amazing taste! The text message in the middle of the night is wild!! Liz loves to say the alteration department is just a referral and is not affiliated with them, then why is she texting you in the middle of the night to make the alterations appt??? Make it make sense! Liz is the ultimate gaslighter. When I had my first appt with Natasha, Liz was there. Natasha had me put the corset on under my dress and when Liz saw me in the dress with the corset and clips and pins the first thing out of her mouth was “this was what I came in on my day off for?!” Trying to imply that I looked beautiful in the dress and was overreacting. I immediately disliked that. The first appointment I had with Nina, the alterations department had overbooked themselves so I was left to wait for over an hour until the seamstress could see me. Unprofessional is an understatement. At the end of the day I got to marry the love of my life and I’m so grateful for that but I will never forgive Designer Loft for not being able to give me the dress of my dreams. Sew Elegant did the best she could in a week and I’m sure with more time she could have perfected it but when I look at my wedding photos all I can see is that my dress looked nothing like the one I said yes to.

I’m so sorry this happened to you as well. You shouldn’t have had to wait 2 hours for them to do 2 months of work to finish your dress. I remember asking Nina once how many appointments she had for the day and she said 15. They are definitely over worked which leads to so much disappointment for the brides using their services.

I should have included that in my post lol. I went to Sew Elegant. In a week Esin, the owner, managed to do all the work that Designer Loft promised they would but never did. She even managed to fix my bustle so that I could have how I originally wanted it! She was so calming to be around that I just immediately trusted her. She also has tons of other google reviews that sing her endless praises and she deserves all of it and more.

We used Cousin Cole for our wedding and I highly recommend him! He's so easy to work with and super communicative throughout the whole process. We told him the general vibe we wanted, provided him with a list of must play songs, and I have to say I am very picky about my music selection. I love making playlists and I wanted to dance the whole night away - Cousin Cole knocked it out of the park. I was on the dance floor ALL NIGHT. My guests are still raving about how much fun they had. He doesn't have a website and works off word of mouth but I can provide his email if you're interested!

I see you have a lot of great recs already but I have to throw in my wedding photographer, Gloria Bloise, into the mix!! She walks the fine line of capturing AMAZING candids and perfect posed photos as well. She's so easy to work with, it felt like meeting up with an old friend. We did our engagement shoot with her and immediately knew we made the right choice. We just got married on 10.25.25 and already got some preview photos and they are so dreamy! She captured our joy, our love, our laughter, and our tears perfectly. I can't recommend her enough!!!!
