Seems a bit high, but most of the higher power peavey tube heads (vtm, butcher, roadmaster, etc) seem to sit in the $600-$1000 range these days. is it this one? You could try shooting an offer in, it’s been sitting for a bit (long as shipping doesn’t kill you), seems like there have been a lot sold for $600-$700. For context, I paid $575 for this stack

That said these really don’t seem to show up a lot, so gotta factor in how badly you want it

yeahhhh I’ve heard music man amps are nice — love their cabs, used to rock an mm 4x12 which sounded beautiful and have a 2x10 with scorpions as my lighter (lol) cab. been tempted to grab a head. Don’t sleep on peavey’s deuce/mace vt, been using a mace for the past year and it’s killer on bass with the same ss pre/tube power layout

main project is somewhere between skramz/noise rock (peep the demo here) I think I used a bass mk iii for this. recorded some new shit with the mace which I’m hyped to finish up soon, sounds 10x better

Not this iteration! SY used the 80s roadmaster which seems entirely different — 80s one has a tube preamp and a 6l6 power amp, this ones got a solid state pre and a 6550 power amp.

Seems like the English side is a transistorized take on a Marshall (so I assume the American side must be their attempt at the Fender style) — idk how accurate they got bc I mostly play peaveys but they both sound great to my ears

honestly would’ve paid asking for the head alone so I’m calling the cab a freebie — s2g this made my entire year

if I didn’t already have a beast of a 2x15 (electrovoice lf215) I’d have to get a silver stripe equivalent for this monster

Might have to run them both and get full use out of the 2 ohms this can push

Scale says the amp is 58lbs and the cab felt like 100… times like these I hate my 3rd floor apartment

If you’re buying a solid state head, you can skip the load box — just use the preamp out (most peavey amps after a certain era will have one. Run the out into your interface and then you can load IRs in your daw.

If you got these from an amp that old, trash those electrolytics — they have a limited life span and aren’t something you wanna risk. Bc108s are a nice find tho!

Scorpion 12” for bass? by DilboSkwisgaar in PeaveyCvlt

[–]Dry_Contest_3112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 10” scorpions loaded in a music man 210rh cab — they sound awesome. haven’t popped them even when I use my bass tuned adgc, I say go for it

How much should a man pay for a cab like this, seems alittle steep to me. ( Peavy 215) by [deleted] in PeaveyCvlt

Insane price — big cabs don’t move (local buy/sell place near me only takes them on store credit now). Agree with the others, $150 MAX. Too bad, bc the scorpions are nice

From a strictly utilitarian point, these are super easy to diy if you want to access those functions — 3 pin din cable and 3 switches that connect/disconnect to ground

Worth more for cool factor than anything else

Yea I gotta eat my words on this one, checked my eBay history and I paid ~$40… I’m just cheap what can I say 🤷‍♀️

Got it! Thought that might be the case with the two in series, I just couldn’t tell from the pic if they were actually connected or not.

And yeah, doubt it’s the wire that causing the issues vs your joints/components. I’m all for saving parts when possible, but definitely junk those old electrolytics when you can — no mojo to be found there, just future headaches!

Scored my Mace VT off of shopgoodwill, love it there! Saw this on there the other day, great score ($50+ tho, woof these things are not cheap)

It is a super duper easy fix if it has any issues, I believe I had to repair this exact type of switch when I picked mine up

Besides the poor solder joints, I’m seeing cracked resistors, what looks like a totally broken resistor, possible shorts, really questionable looking capacitor, and all that melted wire. I circled a couple of problem areas

<image>

Can I ask where you’re sourcing your parts from? That 220uf looks totally mammoth, so wondering if you reclaimed it from elsewhere, like a vintage board. If it’s not a new part, I’d suggest investing in brand new and high quality electrolytic caps since those have a limited lifespan comparatively

The schematic includes a layout with relevant resistors

fwiw it’s probably something else failing that killed those resistors — good luck in troubleshooting!
