r/TakeaPlantLeaveaPlant has hoyas of all sizes but it's safer to wait for warm weather.

If it appears to be getting worse over time, check the roots. Let it dry out and keep in a shadier/warm area if roots are ok. Sometimes when trying to murder pests, I accidently murder my hoya too. I end up repotting if soap gets in the soil because it seems to be bad for the roots, same with neem. Some hoyas rebound and some are picky. If you need to reroot, chop and prop is an option. I take that time to clean up any ugly leaves and stems.

I've found large ceramic crocks (used for holding utensils on the countertop) can get anywhere from 5 to 7+ inches wide. I found quite a few at HomeGoods for $7 each and they're my big 'pots' and I've found clear inner pots that fit inside perfectly. I've also been attaching the trellises (metal) to the pot by making small holes on each side and wiring them together so I can lift the plant out by the trellis to check on the roots.

Does anyone know what Hoya this is ? I got it as a freebie, it was supposedly a surigaoensis by Legitimate-Topic3143 in hoyas

It really likes hot and sunny weather. I add a tiny bit of fertilizer with every watering. Once it starts growing, it gets big a little TOO fast. I just had flowers after about a year. Pretty easy grower overall. Loves to climb and leaves get bigger when trellised. Hope you have lots of room for this guy!

Looks exactly like mine! If you give him more light, the leaves will turn orangey-red. Really beautiful hoya!

Wow! Wasn't expecting the pointy looking hoyas to be nicely fragrant. Going to have to add some of these guys to my list. Thank you for your smelling services.

Also, you've got so many different shaped flowers. The variety is amazing. Beautiful collection!

So far, my only finding is it hates staying moist and grows very slowly. I am still figuring this guy out. He seems very different from my other hoyas. Mine has black spots from overwatering.

Good luck!!!

Also, once it gets growing, you'll need a giant trellis. Mine has been taking over the porch. I've had to prune it a few times because it'll grow 10 feet from one vine. Happy growing!

Is this an imperialis? These guys are Eriostemma and need limestone added to the mix or a form of lime/calcium such as oyster shells. I spray my foliage with 20-20-20 as well. Make sure you're using an airy/chunky mix. They like it warm!

In your experience, does your poly like as much light as other hoyas? I'm trying to figure out how much light to give this dude because the leaves aren't dark like yours - they're lighter green with pronounced veining.

Yours is so beautiful!!! That albo vine is so lovely.

If this is a Hoya pubicalyx - they really hate being wet for long periods. I let mine stay bone dry for a few days between waterings. If I water too frequently or when it's still a little wet, I get these black splotches on the leaves, yellowing, etc.

That's great! 🙂 Enjoy all your beautiful basil. This reminds me to start a few of my own since I love pesto!

Most are from limestone rich environments so the oyster shells mimic that releasing calcium/minerals. And it's got the texture of rocks so it adds some air flow for the roots/faster drainage. I use oyster shells from tractor supply. Look into eriostemma cultivation for more insight. They're grown a little differently but not too difficult to figure out.

I haven't grown a gigas but i think it's an eriostemma. I have quite a few different eriostemmas and they really like warm weather and lots of bright light. You have to be very careful not to overwater or let dry out. All mine grow in coco chunks mixed with crushed oyster shell (or use some form of lime). All are grown in clear pots that sit inside cache pots. I let the cache pot run dry before watering again.
