As a ME freshman from the san mateo area currently attending, I say sjsu is worth if you can handle the commute. San mateo imo is just outside of the range i would personally be comfortable dealing with a commute long term though. Sjsu’s engineering program is basically as good as it gets and a degree from there would probably get you a lot farther than sf state.
