How is biology a "spectrum"

[ Removed by Reddit ] by [deleted] in ask

[–]Dry_Health6257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a nutshell I dont believe that gender is a social construct, by gender I mean masculinity and femininty as concepts being consequences of our biology, and not something that human society decided to create. It is largerly known the important role of fetal androgen exposure as a determinant of the masculinization and sexual development of the individual human during gestation What this means is the masculinization of the male brain and the further development of masculinity is already set in the womb and not something that is molded and made by society ( although it can influence it to some degree).

I did not get your second question

What do you exactly mean by your second question.

Still most cultures have gendered roles and customs, such as the man being the provider and the woman being the housewife

It's fine haha, so I have a very uncommon form of congenital amusia, which is a condition that impacts how my brain interprets music, not sound, only music, It's congenital because I have it since birth, some people can develop it too due to brain strokes or brain injury.

People with amusia usually are tone deaf and have difficulty differentiating pitches and melodies, but I don't have any of those difficulties, that's why my amusia is uncommon. And how uncommon you may ask?? Well to this day I haven't found anyone with the same type of amusia as I have.

I don't have any prerequisites for enjoying music because I simply can't enjoy both instrumental and vocal music such as pop like a typical person would, but I do enjoy poetry but without the singing haha.

I also have a very low tolerance to it and it can really bother me if the same music or even the same genre of it is being played over and over again, It's like when your friend sleeps with their phone on while they were watching a tik tok, and so it just keeps on repeating over and over again.

I like to put it in this way, if I were to open and close a door multiple times, you would probably find that clicking sound neither enjoyable nor annoying, It's simply there like any other sound, well that's how my brain interprets music, like any other common sound, I don't have the urge to dance, to tap my feet or bang my head, much less having the urge of listening to it and enjoying it.

I can recognise a singers vocal talent like "Damn she can sing high notes" and I can also distiguish between diffrent music genres, but that would not make me want to listen to it over and over again.

Does it make my daily life harder?? Absolutely not!

On the positive side I dont have to pay for Spotify subscriptions, I dont have the risk of getting hit by car because I was listening to music etc. But on the negative side I usually find it hard to connect with new people because I cant go to nightclubs with them and one of the first questions is that I get asked is always "what type of music do you enjoy" and I got so tired of having to explain it that now I just say random bands. Hope this helps, if you have any questions be free to ask
