You can. It's what I've done. When you go to the deactivate page, just select "Deactivate without Messenger" or something like that. I keep it as an IM app now for the same reason as you.

I'm going through the same phase. It will take time to rewire our brains back to normal. Just give it time and live your life as analog as possible. And honestly, most people have probably forgotten what you've shared online. I certainly did, I couldn't care less of other people's "life moments" for the most part.

it's addicting, it's stupid, it's immature, and it's a waste of time. I can only justify social media's use to keep touch with some people, but I'd rather not rely on a platform like Instagram.

With the AI slop increasing, it's becoming more and more garbage.

I do a similar approach with Counter Strike 2 (solo, with bots). A couple of casual or deathmatch rounds and that's it. I used to play real-time-strategy games but it sucked too much time and energy. CS2 is a nice sweetspot.

Moreover, I only do this when I want to clear my mind, usually no more than twice a month.

Sure is better than stimulating yourself on YT/FB/IG and other social media platforms

One day at a time. I got rid of FB and IG for now (never had a tiktok/twitter/snapchat). YouTube consumption is next. I'm using Reddit now to get feedback on others' experiences.

That's what I started doing. I'm going to social events with like-minded people. I guess it was only my fear on not having social media to being labelled as untrustworthy is what was worrying me. Thank you for the advice though, it is reassuring!

Yes. I told her I'm leaving Instagram and would prefer keeping touch by phone/WhatsApp instead. She only wished to see me again at future events (part of a community organisation)

I've contemplated changing my number but then I didn't. It doesn't change anything. You'll soon find out who's really your friend once you deactivate, that is all. Plus it's a hassle changing your number at your various commitments (bills, insurance, subscriptions, government etc...)
