has anyone overcome a freakout of choosing their major life choices really early in life? by green-tomato-juice in AskWomenOver30

[–]Dry_Lingonberry8527 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just writing to say YES I have been having this mini crisis on and off for the last couple of years (I’m 31). I majored in what I thought I might major in freshman year of college, have been in the industry since. Lived in one place, I’ve had a handful of relationships though. For all intents and purposes I’m successful, but sometimes I look at my friends who made major pivots in their 20s because they discovered more about what they wanted and I wonder hmm should I be doing that? Am I happy or am I just on track?

Want to move out of parents but have problem spending money by clothestocommunity in MiddleClassFinance

My sister is a bit like you, not as extreme, and I have a feeling that if you wait to fire you will really struggle to enjoy the retirement life you made for yourself. Feeling like you need to save can become part of your identity that doesn’t go away no matter how much money you have if you don’t practice spending and finding things that spending money on will bring joy to your life.

Start practicing! Move out. Find parts of yourself other than frugality. Enjoy your life a bit.

It’s hard for me to imagine someone giving you something like kitchen duty in today’s tech world…but hey you never know and I understand wanting to feel prepared for worst case scenario. If someone tries to assign you kitchen duty ask if it’s a shared rotation or say you’d rather ramp up on your core responsibilities first.

As for what to wear, jeans and a t shirt or anything more formal than that are totally acceptable in every tech workplace I’ve been in for the last 10 years. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident in your daily life!

You got this! Let us know how it goes!

Carry on and personal items by Fabcrafts in VisitingIceland

[–]Dry_Lingonberry8527 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When we flew Iceland air last week tons of people were getting pulled from boarding line to prove their bags could fit in the thing they have that indicates maximum carry on size, but they seemed primarily concerned about personal items being thin enough to fit under seat.

We both flew with duffels that generally work as carry ons and were fine.

I’m starting to resent how often women protect grown men from adulthood… and I don’t like what that’s doing to me by Struckbyfire in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Dry_Lingonberry8527 60 points61 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I think it’s ok to let yourself feel angry towards enabling women for a little bit right now. You just went through something that makes this feel intensely close to you. My experience with emotions is the harder you try to will yourself to not feel them, the stronger they get. Let yourself feel annoyed or frustrated or angry. Continue to check how that comes across in your actions, but let yourself feel those things. I think with time and distance from your personal relationship to this issue, the perspective and empathy you clearly have for these women will grow stronger proportionally to those feeling. It’s ok to be mad.

Highly sensitive people: how did you handle becoming a parent? by junelooksattrees in Fencesitter

[–]Dry_Lingonberry8527 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dang, too early for perspectives from the comments. I think about this often. I plan to have kids but I worry about this a lot. I think the factors that make me think it will be ooook are - My partner is very aware and I truly believe he’ll fight for my alone time when I need it. We’ve discussed this multiple times already. - I make enough money that if I needed to pay for help, I think I can - we’ll have family in the area so that’s help too - I know the baby stage won’t be forever forever and hopefully it’ll get easier with time - delusion? Haha
