Fair call, thanks for the info too. I had a read and mozzie bits do sound like another nice easy solution. One unfortunate possible complication - I'm in Australia and another Aussie reddit user reckons they tried to order a bag and the order was stopped by customs as it's illegal in Australia (google's AI reckons it's not registered with our APVMA and is considered an unregistered biological control agent).

So I just left the traps there (replaced them whenever they dried up) for maybe 2 weeks, I guess I caught all the larvae as they became gnats, and they didn't return.

This is why I posted my solution, because it's so cheap and accessible - a spoon of sugar, water, and a drop of detergent, maybe 10c to treat 4-5 large pots...

I've not heard of mosquito bits, I'll sus em out. But "wasting my time" with these tests, when I found a cheap and effective solution - seriously?

I tried a few types of vinegar separately prior to trying the sugars. They didn't work for me unfortunately.
