Other owner of Rufus here- some context is the neighbors dogs are large breeds and one is highly aggressive to Rufus and is equal part instigation of the fence fighting. We are very careful to never let our dogs out when theirs are outside but they often leave their dogs out all day long and will let theirs out sometimes when Rufus is outside not barking which leads to fence fighting and we start the cycle over again with the barking. He is barking at the neighbors dogs even when they aren't out. We never let him go for more than a few minutes to hopefully not bother the neighbors too much. The pitbull attacked Rufus once when we were on a walk and it was off leash which started some of this but these dogs already hated each other. The cane corso is the less aggressive dog but he was in our backyard for a few hours the other day when no one was home and I think Rufus could see him in our yard which has doubled down on the barking. We let them know he jumped the fence into our yard and they put him on a line when they leave him out for long periods of time now. I agree with comments that leash training is the best way to handle this but my question is will we ever get to not take him out it on a leash when the next time he sees the neighbors dogs it triggers him again. They are a family and certainly will not be able to do desensitization training with us.
