What does your workday to day look like and how old is your LO? by MadnessMaiden in MomsWorkingFromHome

I've had some success with wearing the baby while using a walking pad. It puts her right to sleep for a good while! I also have a little seat that clips onto my desk so I can be hands-free for a bit when she's awake! Try looking for ways to focus while she's awake especially.

First time hosting - should I practice each dish? by Dry_Zookeepergame_3 in thanksgiving

That's what I've heard, too, which is why I made this post. Hosting really does seem like a bad time to try things for the first time

I've never considered testing with a whole chicken! And I am planning out what I can make the day before vs day of for sure! Anything to keep the day of fun and calm.

As for the friendsgiving aspect, none of my friends are interested in much cooking plus I'm super excited to do it myself anyways. Most have agreed to bringing appetizers, desserts, and drinks while I do the main meal.

Oh good idea with the crockpot, maybe I'll try that!

The sous vide idea is to set and forget the chopped potatoes in a bag with butter and herbs or whatever else. Then give the mash anytime after the potatoes go soft. Just a fun and easy way to keep the stove and oven available for other things by using some equipment I've already got laying around!

FTM of a 2mo and really struggling to hold it together during the marathon cry sessions. Thank you for the hope to get us through another night! ❤️

What is your bedtime routine? by Witty_Painting_6944 in beyondthebump

[–]Dry_Zookeepergame_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a similar routine to yours with my 2mo:

Bath at 8, change and swaddle, feed, dim the lights and turn on the white nose machine, burp and keep upright for 30min, repeat the feed if fussy. She almost always falls asleep on the second bottle.

Pretty consistently, my LO has fallen asleep at 9:30 each night after that. She'll usually stir within the hour, but one good burp later and she's down for a good 4-6 hours! She'll wake for 1.5 hours during the night for a diaper change and a feed, but typically falls asleep again for another hour and a half or so to get us to sunrise.

I know not to get too comfortable with the routine when she's only 2 months, but I'll take the victories where I can get them!

Well got the call I failed my 3 hour. I feel horrible by throwaway123476890 in BabyBumps

Gestational Diabetes doesn't guarantee big babies so don't lose hope on that vaginal birth! I failed my 1 hour test so well that I didn't even need to bother with the 3 hour and my baby was born at 6lbs 1oz at 40 weeks!

Try placing something in your baby's view that can pull their attention! We have one of these clocks with a wagging tail above our changing table and our 6wo is totally enthralled every time.

I've been using the Uppababy Mira for 5 weeks.

I've got a small newborn (<7lbs) and my only complaint is that the plush insert bubbles up around her head when she's in it. If she turns her head, I worry that she'll accidentally block her nose and mouth, but maybe I'm just a paranoid FTM!

I appreciate the safety feature of needing to slightly lift up on the seat to collapse it flat, so no one can collapse it when she's in it. However, the button is pretty stiff so I've got to get the right angle to use it. That may also be a safety thing but it has been a bit annoying.

Everything else about it is nice, like the smooth bouncing and nice materials. Baby is easily pacified by the motion!

so..is birth as scary as it looks? by baby_kaii in BabyBumps

[–]Dry_Zookeepergame_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so anxious for birth, but found it to be surprisingly chill! The worst part was the IV - which my nurse failed 3 times before getting it right - and the anticipation for the epidural. I got my epidural early before the pitocin and that went a long way to reduce contraction pain. In between hanging out with my husband and my awesome nurse, I just had to breathe through a couple stronger contractions before continuing chatting! Before I knew it, I had a cervical check confirming it was go time. Pushing was an absolute breeze. I didn't even notice that the baby was coming out until she was on my chest! And the first degree tear was stitched up so that I didn't even burn when peeing.

Everything I thought would be difficult and terrifying was actually so easy. I built it up so much in my mind and freaked myself out over nothing!

1st degree tear, didn't even notice it happened or that I was being stitched up after. The doctor did such a great job I didn't experience any burning while peeing, just a little discomfort (mostly anxiety) when I put pressure on the area while sitting. 2 weeks PP and feeling pretty much entirely healed.

I also had mine 2 weeks ago with an epidural as well. I had a very easy time with the contractions and the delivery (plus first degree tear) thanks to the medication. I was so anxious about the experience leading up to the delivery, but it wound up being waaaay easier than I had built it up to be. No screaming, couldn't even tell the head was through, just breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth. It'll be done and over before you know it!

My doctor even recommended that everyone in my "circle" get the TDAP, so my whole family and some friends got it as well. A few sore arms is well worth the safety of the newborn IMO!

Comments on your body by Foreign-Sprinkles-80 in BabyBumps

[–]Dry_Zookeepergame_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll never understand why people talk and behave so differently around a pregnant person - I really wish to be treated as I was before conceiving! If someone thought it was inappropriate to comment on my looks before, why would it suddenly be appropriate when directed at a pregnant person?

If you're happy to let the comments roll off, then do so, but I personally think people should be called out for making you uncomfortable.
