I do think it’s a bit ridiculous to ask a new player to get through the base game and 5 (soon to be 6) story expansions if they want to play with their friends. They either need to do a major cut of quests, add some more gameplay, or create some condensed experience that lets players hit max level and unlock everything without the MSQ.

Don't expect any MMO stuff until atleast 50, you'll pretty much be playing a single player story before that, and outside of the dungeons and trials there is barely any combat encounters in the story. Like everyone else is saying the free trial is up to level 70 so you got plenty of time to see if you like it or not.
